Most chop shops eg MK Kepong (search Mudah) is selling used clusters for RM500-ish

Thanks zib. This is a decent alternative to repairing.

My idea is that the E39 MID / Instrument Cluster are inherently defective, so a secondhand unit will very likely have the same pixel problem even if it has not yet developed one.

Many / some of us here would want the problem fixed so that they last. If we don't mind the secondhand unit having pixel problems in the near future, we probably won't think of changing / fixing our current defective ones in the first place.

Cheers.

Hi all,
I am about to order these 2 ribbons (1 for my OBC aka headunit and 1 for the instrument cluster). Do you know anyone can install this in KL?
aidilj is in Penang looking at his location. Too far unless I happen to be in my hometown.

Bought my instrument cluster ribbon cable from these guys:

I have done the instrument cluster twice now, but have never done the MID.

haywire, can this be done without drilling? Why don't just disassemble properly..?

To tackle the 4 screws holding the LCD housing, the front face with the needles need to be taken out. Once this is done we will need to recalibrate the cluster, which we dont really have the equipment for.

Method shown above is to bypass this procedure, and to take out the 4 screws without dissassembling the front face + needles. Thats the method recommended by the ribbon cable supplier, printed in their instruction.

seems complicated..I am not good when it comes to delicate movements :)

my plan B is to call this Yoke guy who can come to yr hse/office and dismantle yr instruments cluster replacing it with a temp and then returns a few days later with yours repaired.

I also have the MID issues for the HU display. The clock is barelly visible and so does the radio frequency...sigh..
