For 5 CDs or more I can get a price of RM1700. For 10 CDs or more - RM1600. Yes, original BMW CD (not from the manufacturer Navitech) with update and warranty. Anybody got a better deal than this?

funfer_fahrer, what do you mean "update"? Do you mean we are going to have update in the future / whenever BMW have newer version for FOC?

An "Update" means - whenever new roads or intersection is built in K.L, then the current CD is not recent anymore. It is still useable but not accurate. When this happens, BMW will send a letter to its customers to "update" to a new CD. This service, I believe is FOC but I am not sure of the validity period. There was a case in Germany when the driver was driving in a foggy weather ended up in a river because the bridge he thought was supposed to be right in front was no longer there. An update is very important.

I just came back from AB in Sungai Besi and managed to test the CD on my car. Unfortunately, it didn't work! This is due to the navigation software in my car did not recognize K.L/Sin CD. However, it does recognize nav CD from US, Japan, whole of Europe, Bahrain and Oman. One way to find out whether your car will accept the CD or not - just give the chasis number to AB. If there is "605" feature, then it will accept a DVD instead of the CD. When the guy at AB entered my chasis number the list of the countries mentioned above were displayed except K.L/SIN. So, you might want to try this trick just to find out. If KL/Sin CD is not displayed, don't hope too much. You can ask the guy to insert the CD if you are still not happy.

BMW is quite smart in their marketing department. If you want the KL/SIN CD to work you got to purchase the car from BMW Malaysia, or the car that was built after the KL/Sin CD was launched. I've heard some stories of customers who bought the E60 from overseas (recond unit) but the Nav CD still doesn't work.

Good luck.

Maybe you can try the CD on my car see if it works.
By the way, what do you means "605"?
But as for the "If you want the KL/SIN CD to work you got to purchase the car from BMW Malaysia, or the car that was built after the KL/Sin CD was launched." is not quite true. The KL/Sin CD launched last year. And there are a few older E46s are using the map and it is not a CKD unit.

I think the best way to find out is to try it out. You got to be very very sure that it works because this CD is not cheap (RM2018). The "605" is the reference number under the "navigation" heading in the BMW AG computer after your chasis number being entered. It means, you can use a DVD instead of the CD. The CD just arrived in KL. I wonder how many E46 owners actually bought the new CD. The DVD had arrived quite some time ago. They definitely can't use the DVD because it is meant for E90, E60 and the new facelifted E65/66.

Sanjay,

Can I know which audio shop can modify the TV so that I can watch TV and DVD on the move? Thanks bro.

Just called Autobavaria Sg besi and spoke to a guy called Kevin. I gave him my chassis number and he looked it up for ordering the CD and it only gave Europe, and Other countries map availabe for my chassis except Malaysia.

Strangely that there is something in the CBU models that does not accept the Malaysian Map. Anyway he told me to come and test it out. Pretty weird and puzzles me. Will check with PML in Singaporey and see what they say.

My 46 has a DVD input for maps. All I have is a DVD map of Japan. Haven't tried any of the local ones yet. The chances of it working is pretty slim though, as my SAT unit is in Japanese...

It will not work..

Hi all, Im a newbie in BMWs and just got myself a recon 2004 E60 Japan edition, great condition and nice. Got all excited about it and wow.....a work of art! I have some questions about it though, hope you experienced guys here can help me out:

1. The screen is all in Japanese, cant understand the language and havinga hard time adjusting it. Can we change the language to English? Need advice on this.

2. Since it's a imported reconditioned version, will AB Malaysia help install the GPS navigation software for Malaysian map for me? Need some advice here too.

Hope Im not stuck with the Japanese language on that screen forever.

Best Regards.:)

1. My E39 is a Japan spec. The main menu is in English but when I inserted KL/Singapore Nav CD everything turned Japanese. The last position from the GPS was in Nagoya! When I did a MODIC test the report showed that my car has 3 NAV computers - 2 "NAV Navigation computer" and 1 "NAJ NAvigation Computer, Japan". I suspect the "NAJ" thing is the main culprit here. It is a Japan specific system. Just like their handphones, I believe you can only use the system only in Japan unless you can find some really good hackers here.

2. The Malaysian map CD and DVD are readily available in Malaysia. The both cost RM2018 each. The main problem is the system that is being installed in the car. If AB can help you install the required software, please let me know. Thanks

You lucky guy! I am jealous already!
You gotta help me. I need to know your navigation system installed in your car. You can find this info in the print out from the MODIC's "Diagnosis Vehicle Identification".

Hi all,

Thanks for the info, funfer_fahrer. I got the language thing sorted out yesterday by the car dealer who sold me the car. There's actually a language selector in it! Now my screen is all in English.

As for the GPS software thing, I will have to ask a friend who works in AB if they are willing to install for me. Will keep you guys updated on this.:)

Now the next thing to install is a GPS alarm system. Anyone familiar with this? Is it really ok to install an alarm system into my car? Others says most workshops dont even dare meddling with it. Just found a workshop whom just successfully installed one on a 6 series.

Thanks and best regards.

I sent an query directly to BMW Malaysia through thier website. They called me today to inform me that my Nav does not support malaysia map. anyway the guy who called is from thier call center and does not know. They apparently checked with autobavaraia's technican and found that I cannot use the malaysain map neither can upgrade my Nav. I asked him why can't i upgrade to a DVD model, and he said no because of some wriring etc etc.

I dont think they know the right answer and my gut feeling is the nav sofwate which needs be upgraded or updated in the systems.

I will try and see what PML singapore says and will check the CD out as Singapore CD covers malaysia too and they are priced at 545 SGD

For the BolehLand + KiaSu Island GPS map, you do not know until you try it. The GPS map are available in both CD and DVD format. Just get the CD format and try it out.

As for the DVD ROM upgrades. MKI,II&III is a CD ROM, but MKIV is a DVD ROM.
If you want to upgrade to MKIV, here is the (#3) adapter lead 61 12 8 381 219 - RM170.00 and (#2) connecting lead 61 12 6 907 840 - RM445.00.
If your NAV system has a female voice and wide screen display, then you can forget about both items above. And you can straight upgrade to MKIV without the leads above. Why? Because the early version MKIII NAV system has a male voice are using old types of connectors which MKI and MKII are using. But for the later version MKIII are with the sweat female voice and using the same connectors as the MKIV. So you can straight plug and play by replacing the MKIV DVD ROM computer unit (#1). And ofcause an OS upgrade....

This is the offical reply from BMW through email to me

Thank you for your email dated 20th February 2007 and your enquiry on the GPS Navigation System.
Please be advised that the Malaysian/Singaporean navigation CD/DVD that is currently on the market is only meant for vehicles equipped with "Navigation Professional, SA609" option. This option is only available on the E60, E90 and E66 models. Older models are fitted with different types of navigation system; for example MK1, MK2 or MK3 which are unable to support the latest GPS navigation system. Therefore, your car which is a E38 will not be able to accomodate such an upgrade.
Hope this clarifies. Once again, we thank you for your interest in our range of BMW products. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further query regarding this matter.
Thank you.
