See Kenny Ong at Glemarie Parts Dept for a test DVD. Actual stock will be in by mid to late Sept.
Since you are getting one already, maybe you can co-ordinate with Calvin and set up something....

Thanks for the lead. I'll see him tomorrow.

Was at AB Glenmarie yesterday...apparently no test DVD available, according to the customer service officer there, and unlikely it's gonna be compatible with older models since the DVD map was meant for the new E60 :(

Besides, my Japan-model "speaks" in Jap...so when's the next turn???

What about the E46 with the late model MKIV DVD ROM? I knew there are many are still using MKIII CD ROM and below.

I experienced the same thing. Apparently, no test DVD available. The customer service officer explained that my Japanese spec system was not compatible. I was told the same when I visited Germany. The system installed was NAJ (Navigation Japan) instead of the normal "605" NAVI reference in their system.

Well there's still hope...coz I showed him my original jap map DVD & he said it looks similar, and will call me the moment he has a test DVD. Still, even if we DO get hold of ENGLISH map (apparently the Malaysia DVD comes with S'pore map too), how would we know when to "turn left in 50m" or "barrier infront" or the like...unless we take up jap classes

Guys, don't be happy so soon. Because early E46 model came with CD ROM. If you want to upgrade to DVD ROM, it will cost a bomb.
I think it is easy to find out the compatibility. Just ask the oversea forum if anybody use their DVD from E60 on E46 DVD ROM version.

Simple answer is E60 , 63 and 90 use the newer DVD Nav "Pro" system disc and E46 uses "High" system disc (CD or DVD ROM) - so incompatible.

japanese on the cd/dvd rom or on the system itself?

if not mistaken it is universal... only the software determines the language. i might be wrong...

I wish...my E39 "Japan Version" as recorded in BMW's system & actually starts mumbling something in Japanese the moment I start the engine. Now & then during drive the sweet female voice (god blessed!) will interrupt my audio playback and make some announcements...which I reckon is related to the navigation system. The japan map DVD is, naturally, also in Japanese.

I understand quite many members of this forum own Japan-specs model and would probably facing similar frustrating problems such as limited receiver range, redundant phone function etc. Would like to seek you advise on installing (add-on?) a localised receiver (maybe with MP3 and/or DVD playback capabilities)...e.g. where to install, which system to buy etc?

Hi guys .... I'm a newbie in this forum.

Just checked out with Auto Bavaria. The Navigation System is an optional extra and get this ... it cost RM25K extra for the 5 series. What a bummer:mad:

According to their personnel, the system is already working and the map covers the whole of Malaysia. But does it really worth RM25K? Any feed back guys?

Good news! Nokia will come up with its latest model the N95 with map and GPS feature. There will be also a "voice" that is going to instruct you the direction of turn. The map of the world's major cities is also available with all the important features such as police station, point of interest, subway station, trams etc. The best part is that it will not cost RM25K to own and it will be you most of the time, even while you are sleeping.

Cant see the benefit of a Nokia over a standalone Garmin system such as Streetpilot - not as if you navigate in your sleep lol.

I've given up on BMW in-car navigation system. That price is way too steep for me. Just ordered a Nuvi 310 from an Aussie website. I will be downloading the map of Malaysia from www.malsingmaps.com. It is a waste having an additional screen (and ugly too) instead of using the existing screen, but what to do!

There is gps providers which intergrates with your OEM screen, thus saving having additional screen. They can intergrate BMW screens to thier GPS systems
