The Plastic Key is for you to keep in it with you. incase u lose the your other keys... lets put it this way its an emergency spare key..that you can keep it in your wallet..it meant to start your car engine..with it.

all these while i tot with ews, theres some sort of chip in the key. whenever u insert the key in the barrel, it will communicate with the ews controller, allowing only "correct" key to ignite the car.

thought that plastic key cant ignite the engine.. It need to be attach with "chip" then only can start the engine? It can be turn, have the same grid and design with the master key.. But must have "chip" attach to the key then only can ignite the engine.. Even myvi have this technology.. hehhe.. correct me if im wrong..

The plastic can start the car. It has the same function as the master except that it cannot open the door remotely.

The chip is embedded inside the plastic.

You can use your master and duplicate it at a locksmith. it would most probably cost you about RM60 to cut it.
try to start the car with the duplicate key. It start then your car dont have ews protection.

and all local CKD BMW have EWS protection because of the high rate of theft.

my plastic key can ignite and open driver door n boot. as per manual, its like master key but not for daily use. i guess the chip is embedded in the plastic. so i guess for e39 local spec all keys can ignite engine.

shaifulo,

its not upgrade bro, its addition :top:

Opps.. sorry. what I meant is that you cannot open the door remotely. You have to use the key to open the lock manually.

Bro, i have recently bought a car without any spare key. Could you advise where can i get the original plastic key or should i just duplicate the key with the master key as spare at any locksmith? Can the duplicate key start the engine even without the chip inside?

Thanks

i dont think you can start the car with a duplicate key that does NOT have the chip.

Hovever you can duplicate the key for emergency usage when you accidentally lock your key in the car boot.
Trust me , it have happen before.

Hi Jarance, thanks for the remind. Any idea how much the key with chip? I must go back to BMW to duplicate the key with chip?

For security reason, you have to go back to BMW for the duplicate key with chip. :stupid:

Just imagine how would you feel if your car is stolen when somebody can easily duplicate your key. :listen:
