Guys, come show off your oil burners & have a fun outing together with us on Apr 17, on a tour through Raub & Camerons. Would love to see DJH's i-drive, KK's body kits, Jedi's silver (I think you're the first) in person. Can make it? Would be the first time so many 320d's are out in convoy.

Hi Maniac. Too bad, on 17th I have to help my sis shift house. Ya, would be good to share how i-drive looks like in 320d. I really need it as i got so used to it in my F10.
Anyway, enjoy the convo guys.

Shame you can't make it, champ. Very jealous of your i-drive!!

Hello guys,

I was wondering what do you guys do in a convoy? Never been to one. Does this activity involves meeting up at one spot and drive from one town to another and a stop for food before heading home?
Sorry, i am interested but i am new to this.

I also drive a baby oil burner.

search the forums for recent drives to see what to expect. lots of feedback and lots of pics too.
recent runs in country have been to penang, genting, kluang, raub...
did you just get the new 320d with idrive?

mine is a 177hp model. Box stock.

bro, every 320d is a wonderful 320d :D congrats on your new joy toy and welcome to the oil burner fraternity!
do join us on Apr 17 too...it will be FUN with a big diesel contingent!

Maniac,

Thanks for the welcome and ya man is a great car to drive around, the car feels like it is powered with a rubberband. Just goes without much noise from the engine.
Will definitely try to join you guys on the 17th.

I thought of it along the same lines too! Like a catapult/sling shot.....

I call it point and shoot although I think the technical term motorcyclists use is point and squirt :D

Do you guys notice a funny thing about this car when it shifts a gear up, the thrust seems to be the same or stronger (in the middle gears). My other petrol cars tend to loose the thrust when i shift up. A weird feeling but fun!

Dagemoth, this is because when it shifts up, the revs drop... this means for the 320D, that when the shift occurs around say 3500 rpm, revs drop to say 2500rpm and the engine is back to close to its peak torque output meaning more pulling strength... usually, the opposite is true in a naturally aspirated petrol engine, shift up, revs drop to lower in the torque band.... except for say the VW GTI which has a flat torque curve from around 1800rpm thru to 4000rpm...pulling power all the way...

DJH - now that you've had both the F10 and fully spec-ed 320d for a while, do share your insight/feedback on both these machines. What do you like about both cars, and what are the room for improvements?

Just like to say thnks to all who have shared their experience here. A good detailed insight as to wht to expect when i take delivery of my pre-reg ride next week :top:

How can i not b a 'bad boy' w tht huge torque figures haha

Hmmm. I bought mine a pre-own frm AB with 10k mileage. The problem is i'm x getting the mileage as stated here. Went to SG last weekend can only to do 800 km and then require to fill up. Average speed 170km/h.

i doubt you'll be able to get anything close to that at 170km/h in a car with the i suffix instead of d.

well.... for outstation travelling, F10 is better as it is more comfy and roomier.
Issues? Well, I have had a lot of issues with F10. Thumping absorber (changed not too long ago), squeeky brake, wobbly at high speed even in sport mode, slow wiper compared to 3series, lack of lateral support, air cond not cold enough. I like the hold button and how it layout of buttons on the steering.
320d, i still dun understand how u guys did 1000km. When i filled up max (to the extend of overflowing), the reading showed about 750km till empty. Can yu guys enlighten me on this. U can't say i drive like a mad man since it is still not run in yet so rev below 3k. When i turn, i can hear funny sound from suspension, did you guys feel the same? somehow i cannot synchronise my phone with the car's bluetooth....... need to check with dealer. Overall, the torque is addctive but if possible, I hope BMW can improve on traction a tad better. Hope F30 comes witl hold button which is convenient during jams or whilst waiting at traffic light. The buttons on the steerings are not well thought out. Hope they can standardise it at least putting the volume and song/radio channel on the same side throughout the series as I always press the wrong one when i changed cars.... so it is very annoying. Diesel engine clatter still need some getting use to. Overall, pretty happy with 320d.
