On the contrary, I felt an improvement in pick-up on my first tank of Bio-Diesel. Fueled up at Caltex along Jalan Imbi. However, as I am still on my first tank, it is still early to notice any major effects on my 320d. Any D owners running on B5 for longer periods can comment on FC and torque? Thanks

how do u confirm if its biodiesel or diesel?
anyways IMHO caltex's techron D is nice.you somehow will feel better pickup compared to other brands.thats my observation after using it for long time.
i'd ask the caltex station where i usually pump.if they confirm its bioD,i'd go to my next preference. BHP.

Bro, the one I use had a B5 label on the pump handle & it was further confirmed by the pump attendant it is on B5. Anyhow, I have been using either Petronas or Caltex mostly but I did noticed my last refuel at Caltex with B5, pick up seems better, diesel noise at idle is more subdued & the usual sulfur smelling exhaust fume is less. So I need some diesel owners running on B5 to confirm if the above is right and also on our FC and lower torque?

okay then my caltex behind my house is yet to be B5ed lah.
I've yet to find any bioD station nearby my place..

1. Yes, most of the carry bio-diesel now. So far only notice Shell & Caltex carrying them. Caltex already have bio-diesel earlier this year in Melaka. This is what i've read from the news a few weeks back then.

2. Bio-diesel has poorer cleaning power compared to normal diesel. You'll notice performance drops & poorer fuel consumption. But that should not be that obvious. err, let's say 3~6%?
The current Euro 2 is already bad, why still bother going for B5 since they are selling at the same price (Or it isn't?) unless you're really going green lah. Diesel rocks

Let me correct a few inaccuracies here.

Euro 2 is bad only because it spews out sulphur to the atmosphere through your exhaust. From the engine's point of view Euro 2 is better than Euro 4 because sulphur acts as a lubricant and makes the engine run smoother. Biodiesel has about 5% less power than regular diesel. So B5 will have about 5% x 5% = 0.2% less power than regular diesel.

So in short B5 biodiesel should not produce any power or consumption differences.

What I have done is to test Euro 2 (mostly Caltex, some Petronas), B5 since the original launch in June (many tankfuls of Petronas + 1 tankful of Shell) and Euro 4 (yes I drove to Singapore and paid double the cost to refuel several tankfuls with Euro 4 diesel, mostly Caltex, 2-3 tankfuls of Shell). Consumption based on Gas Buddy on my iPhone is not significantly different. 0-100 speeds based on PocketDyno is roughly 7.1-7.4 seconds depending on the road, also about the same. Engine smoothness which is subjective is also no different, I find more differences between Shell and Caltex in this regard, Caltex is far smoother.

Again my own experience with actual fuel and actual data (I'm an engineer, what to do :D). In my opinion B5 is there to save money for the govt, no big difference in performance/consumption.

Hey thanks for clearing some doubt up. Guess its a tankful of Caltex tat actually made the difference rather than B5 Bio D

gameover, great feedback.

after fueling up with b5, have you been noticed any difference your engine lube oil - colour or consistency? you may not be checking levels all the time, but just wondering if you've noted any differences. or has anyone noted that you have any extra soot out the back?

...then again, with your boostbox, most people would makan your asap anyway haha...!

gameover knows his stuff....don't play play....probably an MIT engineer graduate or from somewhere fancy...:-D!

yup, have had quite a bit going on in recent weeks. 10 weeks more before 2011 is done, so it's the year end push.
Let's go for a diesel drive soon, perhaps end Nov or early Dec when the rainy season abates. Will organise on Sun, so that you can come along - how does that sound? :4:

I hardly ever check the dipstick so I don't know about color or consistency. Levels have been stable and soot is not significantly different from pre B5 days.

But ya I do stick to Caltex almost religiously.
