Hi all,

I am a new member here. Mine is 2009 320D sport. When I asked the guys at the AB Penang about reliability of the BMW diesel engine on our euro2 diesel.. "We are monitoring your car". That is what they said.. So far so good. My mileage is already reaching 79K. Next service is no longer free. Just wondering how much it is going to cost me..

Hi Fuad! welcome to the forum! I think you have one of the highest mileage of the 320d owners and its good news to hear so far so good! Only cklein might rival your high mileage-he does lots of outstation trips. No idea bro about next service charge as we haven't reached there yet-please tell us ok?

wow, a 320d veteran! pls do share about your car, and how it's doing now. Any issues or failures yet? Did you follow the BSRI schedule, or did you do anything different? So many questions - but let me also welcome you to the oilburner chitchat fraternity here. we have a passionate group who love our diesels here.
Cost wise, if you go back to the BMW service centres for an oil & filter change should be less than rm500, i believe.

indeed.and the oil burning fraternity is growing slowly but surely.i thought i read somewhere in the forum to double up our diesel service interval.
i.e every 7500 instead of 15000.
doc, maniac, did u do this? this is a case of preventative maintenance i may say.
i am 1500km short to reach 7500km (yeah in a short 2months),so i wonder any of you guys do send oil change in between the scheduled service?

every 7500km is a good idea, that's pretty much my plan. the M service interval is 5000kms, so you can pamper your car like that if you like.

best quote i read in the forum for the day is here:
"Sometimes, there are times when I too think owning a UDM is like a Love-Hate relationship. You love the car, but the car just hates you by giving this problem. But then again, like courting a girl, if you continue treating her right and give her all the care and attention, she will ultimately one day give you the ride of your life" - Petrus

...one thing i beg to differ though, i think i'm getting these type of rides everyday in my naughty 320d :4:

I'm sticking to the BSRI.

(I dont clock as many mileage as i should though...)

I bought a preregistered unit from AB Penang 1 1/2 yrs ago. Got it service regularly whenever the on board service indicator light up. Sorry for the typo error, the actual mileage is actually 69K not 79K. I managed to squeeze in the rear brake service and a 2nd time fuel filter replacement before mileage hit 60K. So those are still free. Fuel filter is also a water separator need to be replace every 30K- 40K according to the mechanic. I am worry about the local diesel quality that I managed to convince them to do a 2nd time replacement of the filter before the free service term expired.
At AB Penang they use Castrol engine oil. That is what the mech told me. And I saw the empty bottles... Each 1 liter bottle cost 100 MYR according to him. And we need 5 liters.
Penang AB only recomend diesel from Petronas and Caltex. That one I follow.

I follow the service clock that pops up when we start the engine......

I service mine every 10k, is the fuel filter you mention is the Diesel Particle Filter? I thought AB Pg is using Shell lub. Which Service Adviser you would recommend at AB Pg. Cheers...

Yes, the fuel filter is the diesel particle filter. I just book for a service appointment this Friday. They told me it is going to cost me 800+ MYR for the oil service alone. And they confirmed again that the engine oil is branded under BMW name supply by Castrol.

Any advice where I could get a cheaper service some where in Penang or Alor Setar? maybe next time I use petronans Fully synthetic LL

Sorry about the fuel filter. It is no the same as the DPF. The fuel filter cost few hundred ringgit only.

I do my oil change every 5-6k, i.e. Will change at least one time between BSRI.
So far, I hv used :
1. Idemitsu, surprisingly, it is smoother n save a bit of diesel compare to shell
2. Motul, powerful but consume more diesel
3. Patronas, no different with shell

Hi! I was surprise to find out not all diesel pump nozzles can fit into the 320d inlet when i was refueling yesterday. I called BMW and they mention only BHP stations have the pump nozzles (for diesel) that is compatible. Is it really or am i doing something wrong?

The Petronas stations have the latest nozzles!

Not entirely true. I have no issues with Shell and Petronas diesel pumps. Works just fine.
