How are your 320d doing so far?

If referring to how our diesel would affect the BMW diesels, what about the E60 530d, and how the owners are coping with it? I suppose many would already be 4-5 years down the line of ownership.

how many of these 5 series are in msia? wonder if its the de-tuned versions like the current 3 series batch or CBU?

What do you mean by "de-tuned" 3 Series?

Far as I know, the 320D is pretty much up to spec as far as tuning is concerned.

My baby is doing soooo well. Born on Feb 2010. Clocked about 25k km. I just love the sound of the turbo. Can I 'enhance' this 'music'? However, will this enhancement void my warranty? Looking al all the gurus out there for some opinion.

DieSel, yes you can buy tuning boxes although ECU remaps are still out of the question right now due to the encrypted ECUs. Most of the vendors are in the UK though. I first looked at the OBD based ECU remaps from Superchips and Evolve. Evolve is very active on the e90post forums and extremely helpful. Unfortunately there aren't any OBD ECU remaps for LCI E90 from 2009 onwards so I went digging further. Next I looked at the DTUK CRD-T and the Spider tuning boxes. Almost bought it but unfortunately since I'm supposed to go to Beijing (or maybe not?) everything's on hold for me.

Mine was the performance edition 2010..done around 13km since last sept..so far so good ..fuel consumption during peak hour 8.7 liter/100 km....one tank can do around 750 to 800 km from subang to kl everyday(jammed ma)..

Mine is pre-owned at 11K bought from premium selection Glenmarie. Now is already 19++K. So far excellent!! except for some occasional cracking sound from front passenger door panel when I get into a certain bumps. They did an oil change before delivery. Service indicator says next oil change is not due until next 4K. That makes oil change requirement at about 12K interval. Question is do we need to change oil at every 7 - 8K ?

Great to hear you are loving it too-the 320d!
I take in for service everytime the display says so-I don't think the changing of the motor oil needs to be done every 7-8K km. Its such a hassle to bring into the service centre more frequently anyway.

I bet our 320d will outlast a lot of the petrol cars for many,many years to come-because of the sturdier diesel engines. That's why buses and lorries engines last sometimes even 50 years and are still going strong!

My input to 320D's engine oil change question. I'm planning to get mine changed every 10km's irrespective of what the countdown indicates. I'd rather have the peace of mind, and feel it's worth investing the $$.

She's got barely 950kms on the dial, as I've been away for 5 days, a feat of endurance that has been too much to bear. It'll be a struggle keeping her below 150km/h up and down on the PLUS....

Errmm... first oil change is in 10,000kms... anyhow, the manual states do not rev over 3500rpm, which for a diesel is pretty close to the redline of 4500rpm, and do not use kickdown, for up to 1500kms... so i think a leisurely cruise at 150km/h at around 3000rpm should be okay, but i've got her close to 180km/h which was pretty close to exceeding the rev limit suggested by the manual. Anyways, I intend to change the oil at around 3000kms anyway.

i thought the first oil change is usually quite early anyway 1000-3000kms? Dont actually know for sure, always bought old cars :4:

They simply told me to go by the onboard computer but it's good practice still, to go for it at 2-3000kms in my humble opinion.

yea, the BMW break-in speed limit allowance is quite generous. there are 2 schools of thought, one where a gentle run-in helps gradually wear in the mechanical interfaces within the engine, transmission and other moving parts (brakes, suspension..); the other is to drive it like you stole it, ie HARD, in order to ram your piston sealrings and set them up nice and tight, which is thought to prevent leakage/burning of the seals during the life of the engine - which gives you better compression and performance in the long term. Whichever the case, it's a good idea to get your oil changed to flush out what ever gets worn off during the run-in period. 2000+kms is a good time to get that done, so your plan is a good one!

Btw the only way to minimize the high sulfur content impact on ur diesel is regular oil change. Think of ur engine oil as liquid detergent where it will absorb contaminant up to a point.

Anyhow there is a huge supply of 320d in the premium selection with as late as nov 2011 stock asking 215k.

Nice points there Maniac. My personal preference is a happy medium between the two approaches. I'm gonna blast it up the PLUS tomorrow morning and take it nice and easy, not too easy mind you, on the way back and I should be well on my way to the first oil change by the end of next week.
