I'm looking to install HID's on my e34, the shop I went to mentioned that I had to cut a hole in the light socket(?), and was wondering if there was anyone who has installed a "plug and play" version without having to cut a hole in the socket..Thanks.

The wire will go thru the hole..a rubber cap will prevent from leaks..

Any auto accessories shop can do... I DIY installed mine for the E30... Which has similar covers/sockets.

Any experience with the China no-name vs the big brands in terms how long they last?

When u say big brands, what have u come across???
I'm using China no-name for > 2 years. and it was less than RM200 a set.
and best is to go for 4500K bulbs, with slight yellow beam.

Big brands - Phillips, Osram, etc..
Bro in Sunway after the Pyramid, there is a shop which sell the whole set, with the ring lights as well. Get that one bro. Looks stunning on the E34. Very garang looking. Or go to Bangkok, they sell it there too. In Bangkok is cheap for RM700 to 800 full set. Cmes with the bracket, Taiwan made.
