Greetings all. As the topic says, i'm a student looking into an E34 520i or E36 320i. From what i've heard, people say BMW car parts tend to break down one by one but i really dont think that is the case. I have, well its my dad's car but i use it when i'm back and know its under my name too XD, an E34 520i manual back in Sabah (i'm in KL now) and from what i can see, dad had to replace the parts one by one as they broke down, but now everything is in working order.I would very much appreciate to any comments on insigns anyone can give. I love my beamer back home and would really want one here. Just that i'm worried that i have to go fix it up all the time. If any of you know anyone who might want to or are selling any of the above cars listed please post here. Thanks alot ")Edit: also insight on fuel consumption, maintainance costs, road tax etc. my first car, pardon the newbie questions ")

for a start, parts affected by wear and tear, we cant escape the inevitably of changing them sooner or later.

Also, yes, unfortunately, bmw parts can be expensive, but not everything is.
Usually, the big ticket items are the gearbox, cooling system...etc. Basic servicing items are also pretty reasonably priced.

I think the main point is, if you plan to buy a car older than 7-8 years, let alone one that is almost 10-13 years old, there is always the likely possibility that major repairs are due sometime somewhere. Worst of all is, buying a car that is almost due for said "heavy repair", and owner decided to sell the car before it went kaboom.

2 ltr roadtax should be in the region of RM200-250 a year. i can't remember though. Fuel consumption and maintenance.. you could ask your dad about the E34 right?

but honestly, unless you have decent access to a lot of pocket money, I will recommend you stay away from an old beemer. But then again, what do I know, in my uni days, all I could afford was a bicycle ;) anyways.. good luck in your car hunt.

there always a wear and tear in the oldies, so try to select the best and happy hunting. He he he Cheers!!! Your UDM is on the way friend.

you could try the 1 series for a start, cheapest, new model and less maintenance.

If you are going have used UDM, why not wait until January. After a new year, the car price may drop and have a lot diffrence. Unless you purchase new UDM.

yeah... i agree!!!! .. one series should be fun to drive even the 116 is fun to drive!!!

I beg to differ about the price drop for used UDM and new UDM next year. I think a new UDM will suffer more in terms of depreciation. As compared to say an e36, whose depreciation value, percentage, and curve is almost bottomed/flattened out already. Do some research and punch in the numbers from motor trader and On the road to get a better picture. Good luck in your hunt for a UDM.

1+2=3,
So I guess we have another thing in common. Bicycle as a mode of transportation during Uni! Kekeke.... :D

Go as ur preference coz everyone has their own dream car, so Individual Preferences

Yeah ... a new UDM depreciation can be frightening !!!

The guy's a student ma. 1 series or whatever new UDM is just plain nuts (but if got money why not). How to pay from pocket money? Unless you r 1 of those people who set up sites like YouTube or something... :p

The e36ers here can surely overload you with info though...

a brand new UDM is definately out of the question lol. but a second hand one less then 80k will be fine.

Hey ya Noel, I guess you are the Noel from my lecture.. Lolx.. Hope so..

Anyway, My suggestion.. Join the E36ers man.. E36 318i is cool.. kakka.. Low maintainance, less problem, save on road tax, petrol consumption not so high.. Hahah.. But make sure it's a good condition wan la.. True Hell boyz?? Anyway i heard there's an E36 for sale.. Donald??? You gonna change your 328i to 318iS rite? lolx..

Hope to c ya in the Grand TT on 10th of Nov.. If you are the Noel from my class, you may get on my ride.. lolx..
