Mine was 27 years ago when I was 25 and never look back since....

When I drove a bimmer for the first time, I was like, damn, why the power steering is not working...After having my own UDM ride, I still love my Honda CIty for its carefree handling...

Anyway, IMO, I still believe getting my first UDM from my own sweat bloody money is the Ultimate Satisfaction Machine regardless of age. Nothing beats the feeling of lifetime self-achievements...But no doubt, you got a cool dad to lend a hand on stepping the first stone:rock:

Nice.. How the UDM catch it's owner.. Haah

For me the UDM is my fifth car and i am in my forties. Yes it took me some time ... But hey, it was with my hard earned money, every cent of it.

My first car was Proton Saga Aeroback 1.3. Got it in my first year of starting work with help on the downpaymemt from my mom! I picked up my girl friend with that good old Saga and back then, the build was quite solid and didn't have any problems with power windows. We used to go places with it and i got her a nice big cute soft toy that sits at the back of the car. She would hug it whenever i drive her home to and from work. We used to work in the same company.

After about 4 years, i upgraded to Proton Wira 1.5. After another 4.5 years it was Proton Perdana V6, it was a nice car, good handling with Lotus tuned suspension and all. I loved the purring of the twin exhaust and i would wind down the window just to listen to it! That car served me for 8 years, until after a bad accident, i decided to sell it off in exchanage for a Honda Civic 2.0 in 2008. Believe it or not, i sold the old V6 for only rm32k, pathetic.

I kept the Civic for 4 years. I was not even looking to change my car this year. The Passat CC did catch my attention last year and i had wanted to get one but at rm277k it is far too pricey. Friend of mine told me that at that kind of price you might as well get a BMW, at least it has the BRAND POWER ... Whatever that means ... I didnt give much thought about it ... Until about 4 weeks ago i was checking out the F30 at the BMW web site, i enter my enquiry on the price but didnt expect someone to call me within 30 mins. But F30 is too expensive so they guy offered me a deal on the E90 that i couldn't resist. And so the rest is history.

The hot looking girl friend i used to pick up with my little Wira Aeroback is now my wife and she loves my UDM, and on the back seat these days is a cute and bubbly 11 year old girl.

great story, mine in short was a diahatsu charade ( mom car, loaner when i was starting work) , then a waja ( ASIA answer to BMW , wrong marketing by proton way way apart ) , e46 320i -> then a e60 525i, ( after it got stolen ) another e60 525i, then now finally a F10.

I'm saving the F30 for another day.

As with all version 1.0 of things, it will take some time to iron out all the quirks and kinks. So let's give it another 2 to 3 years and see how it goes.

Moreover, I still have a family to take care of, so financial commitments and stability is priority one for me.

So in the meantime, I'll just enjoy what I have and can afford.

This thread got me thinking that I should try to recap my own car history, so here goes (according to buying sequence, not selling sequence):

1) Mitsubishi Lancer F (only those older folks would know what this is)
2) Mazda 323 Familia (1.5T goodness)
3) Honda Accord 2nd Gen
4) Proton Aeroback
5) Honda Accord 4th Gen
6) Isuzu Trooper
7) Ford Ranger 1st Gen
8) Fiat Coupe 2.0T, 5-valve
9) Suzuki Vitara, 2st Gen
10) Audi A5 B5.5 1.8T
11) Alfa 147 1.6
12) Mini Cooper S R53
13) Golf GTI MK5
14) Suzuki Swift 1.6 1st Gen
15) Audi RS4
16) Alfa MiTo
17) Honda Stream
18) Porsche CaymanS
19) BMW 520D F10

Started working towards buying my own car at 15, bought one at 17 or was it 18? It's been a long time and looking back that was a heck lot of cars to have worked through.

So of all in the list.. The most preferable car??

Suzuki Swift 1.6, cheap, reliable, zippy, no frills.

Very true. My dotter cried when I sold my Swift after 5 years of driving it. Maintenance cost was superb. (+- RM 2k for 5 years)

I still have all the records, ie. invoices, service record..ha..ha.. the thinnest file ever. But make sure buy a new one. Warranty 3 years or 100,000km whichever comes first. I've done about 47,000km when I sold it. Really reliable.
