My point is bro compared to other countries we're definitely better in a lot of ways. The fact that so many of us can afford and maintain BMW (well just barely for me lol) is a testament of our standard of livings and we should be grateful. In in order for us to have a better standard of living and a better future then the subsidies for oil need to come off.
loafer;543343 said:Sorry dude but there's no comparison made between China and Malaysia. All I said is I "WISHED" that we have the firing squad like China does.
Also 50 odd years is a mighty long time to be still trying to get the first time right no?
Let me get this straight. I'm NOT against the removal of subsidies. What I am against is when the savings from subsidy removals aren't put to good use. We've seen how politicians brag about how much money is being saved from subsidy removals but the very next day we see mega projects being announced. RM800mil for a parliament that we don't need? RM77mil for repairs on the current parliament that is still falling apart? RM800mil for a palace when the current one is still good. And the funniest thing is most analyst says this isn't even the final price for the palace!
The thing is our gov is telling us that,"Hey! We're running out of money so we need to remove this and that, so bear with us ok?" and then they start spending all this money on things that aren't beneficial to anyone at all besides a select few. It's even funnier that Malaysia is an oil producer. Can anyone come up with a really good explanation to that? I sure as hell can't.
I'm sure most of you work 9-5. How many of you wake up at 6am just so that you can get to work on time? All this can be avoided if the gov actually spent money to upgrade the public transportation system. If they don't know how then maybe a "lawatan sambil belajar" to Singapore will do. Provided they don't spend most of their time in the casino there. And if our gov is too proud to look to Singapore for help, maybe they can try South Korea who spent a fortune to upgrade their public transportation and it paid off. South Korea achieved independence in 1948, whereas Malaysia achieved it in 1957. 9 years difference and we're a world apart from South Korea.
Grateful? You honestly have no idea the true meaning of being grateful.

B33mEr;543386 said:LOL ... So what is your idea of being grateful then??? Or is it rather that you're saying we should be ungrateful for what we have now???
Sorry but unlike you i'm grateful that i can work and be able to afford a bmw on my own plus we live in harmony with no natural disaster like in some countries  We're miles ahead compared to indonesia or thailand. For that i am grateful indeed ...

If we are not to improve our own country(not China, not India, not Sulawesi(Bugis), not Kerala, who will? Malaysia Boleh...but boleh what? That's the big question...So, whatever we do, do our level best and hopefully the country will improve too....

loafer;543413 said:Ok Ok....so now we're going to compare living in harmony and no disaster and what not.
What do you want to compare next? I really don't see how the affects of fuel price increase and or removal of subsidies on essential items have any correlation to living in harmony and natural disasters. Please enlighten me.
Good that you can work and are able to afford a BMW on your own. So does everyone else in the forum, well, just about everyone else. I'm grateful too, but I definitely don't owe the government anything for that. They didn't find the job for me, they don't pay my salary, they don't pay me benefits when I'm sick or unable to work and they sure as hell didn't pay for my education.
You know who I am grateful to? I'm grateful to my parents. I'm not grateful to the government just because they are developing the country, or seem to be. It's their JOB to be doing that cause I, and every other citizen of Malaysia, PUT them in charge of the country. Just like how we entrusted the committee of BMW Club Malaysia to oversee the everyday business of running and maintaining the forum and everything else associated with the club. If you want an example of being grateful, then you should be grateful to the committee of BMWCM because they do it of their own free will and without any form of remuneration. Our government officials get paid and on top of that they swindle our hard earned money for trips to Disneyland with their whole family.
Grateful to the government for what I have? Don't make me laugh.

blackrobe;543446 said:Thats too simplistic a view without taking into account the many factors that have made AA as successful as it seems...and its definitely not through kosher methods... take a read of what MAS CEO Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin had to say on this... was in an article in the Star on 1st May 2010, where in a nutshell :
1) the shareholders and/or stakeholders of Air Asia (directly, indirectly, through proxies, etc.) include Kamaluddin bin Abdullah Badawi, Kalimullah Maseerul Hassan (also into Tune Hotels), Khairy Jamaluddin, Tony Fernandez, etc.
2) AA got its profitable routes eventhough it belonged to MAS
3) Singapore is believed to be subsidising the free tickets to its city
So in a smaller nutshell, AA owes its success to political clout... Its about who you know and whose interests are being taken care of.
All is not what it seems, like for anything else...

B33mEr;543472 said:Ahh yes those are business tactics and strategy you can see that all over the world more apparent in the US where big companies uses lobbying firms to lobby their interest in the senate ... If they need to use political connection to gain an advantage so be it but AA has been successful regardless and it has won awards world wide. That nobody can deny.
The point is they're able to gain competitive advantage by offering cheap ticket prices and being profitable by being prudent in their operational cost among other ways.
