govt will abolish the toll increases just before the by elections so that we will realise how caring and considerate they are and vote for them overwhelmingly.:hmmmm2:

there are aplenty. But, it is easy to commen without knowing what actually went through in finding solutions. Keyboard warriors are aplenty but actually doing it is a totally different story. Why can't we just focus on bimmers and kodoks?

You know there's a difference between a keyboard warrior and people who actually want to discuss things. Trying to pretend that one is more righteous than others is worse IMO.

And here I was thinking that Freedom of Speech still exists...

Anyway, I do understand what you're trying to do affan. I do not disagree with the fact that you feel all complaints and grouses should be channeled via the right channels. But has it ever occurred to you that the "right channels" aren't listening? Of course one can always be persistent and keep trying but even the most resilient beings give up once a while. Like I mentioned before in another thread to you affan, do not always assume that people have not tried.

So, tell me this. When faced in a situation whereby the track record of an entity isn't exactly pristine, would one not question its motives? And you say rumormongering is the favourite past-time of Malaysians. Is that really our fault?

Think about it for a minute what you're trying to say. Are we to stand here and accept what our government do without questions? Even agreements between toll concessionaires are kept secret under OSA and only released to the public recently. Doesn't that already tell you something? Is this still not good enough a reason for you?

Like I said in the first post, all I wanted to know is what the government will be doing with the RM245million (assuming that cost isn't supposed to be more this year) saved. Hopefully we'll hear an announcement from them soon.

LOL. PLUS rates is to be increased by 6.3% whereas it's an average of almost 30% increase for the others except for the Sungai Besi one.

Still good right?

By the way, our outgoing PM has just announced that the government might reconsider their decision :top:. One can always hope :)

loafer, this is my last reply to this thread.
what makes you think that I have a different view than you? i know it is frustrating. I felt that too and was like you before. However, there are places where you can make a difference and there are people out there who are trying to make a difference. there are also many incompetent ppl out there which caused, for example, these lopsided agreements.

this is never ending if we talk about it here. time to move on, get on with it and live with it. Don't like it, vote for a change. And if you did, good for you. Exercise your rights. I just feel it is inappropriate to do so in this forum. Best to talk over TT

My reading is that the announcement to raise the toll is just a political gimmick .
It is to prepare for the upcoming 4 bi elections . Will not be suprised that
by the weekend , they will announce that "in view being a 'prihatin' govt , bla
bla , bla , the govt had decided to postpone the raise to 2010" !
Just candies & sugars for the bi-election . :listen:

If they are using it as a political gimmick, sad to say people will just remember the increase and not the decrease. Getting people pissed off is not going to win you any favours.

Here are some of the Barisan government's MP reaction regarding the toll hike. They are as considered appropriate and that's why they are being published. It is OK to disagree even though they are the ruling party. Some of us thought this is going to be government bashing thread. Even though they are BN MPs, they still feel shocked regarding this new development. How come some of us don't feel anything?

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Several members of parliament today expressed shock at the toll increases of five highways, beginning March 1.

Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi (BN-Batu Pahat) characterised the toll hike as inappropriate.
"Recently, the government had said it would give priority to the public in any decision when a concessionaire asked for an increase in toll fares, so I was surprised to hear that toll charges would be increased, beginning Sunday," he said.
He said the government should postpone the increase as the mini budget would be tabled on March 10.
Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid (BN-Padang Besar) did not deny that he would also feel the impact of the toll hike.

Although we are good friends, I have to correct you on this. It has always been my childhood dream to drive those monsters. At that age, I didn't know what politics and BN were all about. What I know is that a dream is a dream. No ruling party can stop that. Because of that, I even sold shampoos at night market at the age of 14. I never attended any government boarding school. I never received any scholarship, including FAMA (father and mother) scholarship. In fact, I brought money to FAMA. All I had was a study loan and I am still paying for it. It was all sheer hard work and determination. But I am proud to say that I love having dinner at home, go to sleep in Afghanistan, shit over Czech Republic, breakfast in Belgium and have a cup of cappucino in BMW showroom in Frankfurt.

well in my opinion

tolls are to cover the costs of building for the highway.

maintenance are usually covered through road tax.. after all it is called road tax right?

what i dont understand is that

they have collected much more than they needed to cover the cost and maintenance (at least for a while which i dont see much maintenance going on anyways) ..... urgh... this is annoying......

it's sickening to see how greedy the corrupted ones in this country really are.

Petrol - higher than other producing country
Road Tax - with crappy highways
Tolls - for no apparent reason...

=.=''

as expected .......

With the agreements now available to the public, everyone from the ruling party and opposition could see how lopsided the terms and conditions of these agreements.

To me, postponing the toll hike is just buying time and at the same time more compensation will be paid to these concessionaires. What is needed a proper solution to address these lopsided agreements once and for all.

One solution proposed is for the government to buy out these concessionaires and from the proposal done by Mr. Tony Pua, it makes a lot of financial sense to do so. TOLL Free roads by 2015 is highly possible!!

Cheers

Looks like no more discussion as the govt changed direction on this one. But I don't agree that this topic cannot be discussed because this is a "car club forum". This is exactly why it can be discussed, in the context that tolls are totally relevant to the subject of cars and driving, as are speed limits, roads, road tax, price of petrol, import duties, and many other related topics that are discussed here. Discussion is healthy and unless the discussion is against forum policy, anyone who is against a certain discussion can just go play somewhere else.

With due respect, Mr goggomobil (since you are older that me),

I never say that this topic cannot be discussed......... and I am fully aware that tol is related to motoring ..... I just remind everyone that this is a Car Club Forum. ... and discuss it from that angle ....

If you notice that this kind of discussion will lead to 'bashing the goverment' or 'political kind of discussion' ...... and that is what I meant in my word.
