I am still thinking to change or not change my vanos seals.., after reading many articles, reviews & comments, I realized:

Hi wan,

Are you the first owner of the car and have driven it the full 260k? If not it would be possible the previous owners have serviced the vanos before and replaced the seals. So maybe that's why your vanos still feels "fine".

A friend of mine had his seal replaced with the Beisan as well recently and also found out that his old BMW vanos seals were still fine. So I guess it's really up to you whether if you want to replace the seals or not.

The replacement seals are cheap so just consider it as a preventive maintenance la. :)

Wan, so far most of them who have changed this VANOS seals have only good things to say la, don't tell me you so unlucky? BTW, I bought during the 1st group buy but yet to change... wanna hear all the good things 1st:D

1. All E34, E36, E38, E39 and even some E60 in this world, need to replace their vanos seals.:p:p
2. And when replacing vanos seals, no, please do not use original BMW seals, go for Beisan seals.:p:p
3. All of proud BMW owners have lost confidence with original BMW vanos seals.:p:p
4. Some of the car owners wish to change, and some already changed the vanos seals, even they are not sure whether should they change it? (I maybe fall in this category):p:p
:p:p
:p:p

Please, I am NOT here try to be smart or other means.., like I mentioned above, I am still thinking whether to go or not to go, but I am still confuse and doubts…
"Self-poison" by reading is not enough for me? Or do I need more “snake oils” ?

Btw, my car (525i) has got about 260k km mileage, but I still has the feeling as what they describe after changing to Beisan seals wor....? possible?

Do you guys agree Americans doing the best in product Sales and Marketing? ( I am not anti-america la..)

Thanks.

* purpose of my post: sure NOT for quarels or any sort or arguements, we love peace. Maybe I need more inputs in order to convince me to go for it. Maybe to bring up something that we have forgotten.

Alaa bang Wan, bukan mahal pun....

Actually just feel sad and disappointed with BMW; if what they claimed are true about the vanos seals designed and make by BMW.

I was proud that BMW was the first car manufacturer produced engine with variable valve timing maa..., how can the seals were made from low quality materials that doesn't last long, BMW should recall all these affected cars !!!

But don't forget, at the time it was built, it was the best. So naturally as technology advances, so too will some aftermarket products/parts to make things better. And BMW by now would have moved on to new technology like the new engines, etc.

Nothing to feel sad and disappointed about wan. Nothing is built to last and even the most expensive cars in the world definitely have things that start breaking apart after a certain amount of years.

Considering that our cars are all at least 10 years of age, a lot of the parts is still working and showing no signs of failing anytime soon. I don't think it'll be the same with a Proton or Perodua.

ya, true, true. parts are prone to wear & tear, especially rubber components.

Thanks!!

Just found out that I have a spare whole set of vanos unit in my store, opened it out, checked the seal, its looks OK to me. Push pull the piston, its tight with good sucking power. Its feels like a good working syringe.

Finally, I have the vanos seals done up last week...one word WOW! Had this done since my valve cover gasket was leaking, so took the opportunity to do this at the same time.
The accelerator felt so much lighter. The acceleration felt so much better and quicker. I didn't push much since it was new, so drove on highway and try to be constant...I have covered about 180km on the new seals, so need to run in more I guess. The car pulls easily across all RPMs now, unlike last time when I had some hesitation around 3000-4000rpm, now, the hesitation seems gone.

Did the seal replacement on my M52B28. Initial impression was better low end torque and fuel consumption. As the weeks went by the engine felt lighter and more responsive to throttle inputs.

For full run in it took me about 1500kms. Now the car drives like it had an engine transplant.

Best maintainence item I have done to date.

*Note: the run in works better in urban conditions as the seals are subjected to variable load. On the highway, the load is constant.

Thanks Herbert!

Now I can't wait to have mine installed...
