Estimate of less than RM400 is a very reasonable price with parts and labor from Albert of WP.

hope so...i asked him before confirming this purhase if he could get the vanos seal here. however, he said that the vanos seal is difficult to get/ can't be bought...RM400 is excluding the vanos seal I'm getting from you, herbert.

I think Bavarian Auto sell the original vanos seals but then it will only last no more than 30K km. Not sure about the price though. Anyway for RM490 inclusive of new rubber gasket, 15 x "seals", 1 x Beisan vanos seals and labor is a good price.

hai,how bout fixing seals in a group may be cheaper

too difficult unless u wanna wait as fixing per person's car would take a couple of hours...:smokin:

Yes, bro bmw7833 is correct. I did mine (replaced with Beisan seals) this morning and got a shock of my life. My inlet camshaft is out by almost one full height of the alu bar!!! No wonder my consumption was high at 11.6L/100km (city) and 10.6L/100km (outstation). After replacement of seals, took a test drive and immediately felt improvement and smooth for low end torque. I also met another member at the workshop who had his seals replaced last week for his e39 528i single vanos. He mentioned same improvement for low end torque plus he is now getting 9.2L/100km city driving.

Herbert,

are the seals still available, please check pm for my enquiry.

Thanks

I have replied to our earlier enquiry (refer to my above post ). Even offer you a slot in the group purchase and also sent you private message regarding payment but you did not reply.

Guys,

For those who have just replaced their vanos seals with Beisan's seals, would appreciate some feedback before and after vanos seals replacement. Also name of workshop that did the replacement and if possible, the labor charge. I am sure the rest of the forumers will benefit from your feedback.

Cheers

Yes, appreciate that and also the workshop that do the job. Hope that the seals have some improvement for my M52.

Replaced my Vanos Seal yesterday at Optimum. Labour charges for vanos seal RM250. However I did many thing at same time, change hoses, fan clutch, spark plug etc.

The old vanos seal in my M50B25TU were in very bad shape. The piston very loose in the cylinder and almost like no compression at all. The old ring material have harden and it broke apart into pieces when tried to take it out.
After changing, can feel the different. Engine rev better and got better low end torque. Previously very sluggish below 3k rpm. Will need to continue monitor performance after the break in period (300km) for more accurate feedback.

Bro, thanks for the feedback and looks like Optimum will have its hands full when other members received their vanos seals repair kits from the 2nd group buy. Did you observe whether your camshalf timing was off??

Do keep us posted after the break in period.

Ha..Ha..that is the reason I do the replacement fast. Don't want to wait until 2nd and 3rd group buy get their parts. My camshaft timing just run out a little bit. According to Jason camshaft runout more common for Double Vanos. Mine only single vanos.

i have just collected and fix my vanos seal yesterday. (double vanos)

have notice a huge improvement in acceleration! car feels like its just gotten a new engine!

will require 200miles drive to get the seal to run-in. will post more updates after that.

special thanks to herbert for organising this purchase!

Bro Transporter,

What is your ride and mileage ? Any work on the Vanos before this change of seal, i.e. still the original seals.

I just want to get the expectation right on the improvement after the change as my M54 is now 5+ years old but still less than 100K KM mileage. Got it 2nd hand so never had the feeling of the car when it was new.

@Ian

My ride was yr 2000 make and clocked 180k. when i got it, the engine was sluggish and acceleration feels very heavy and reluctant. Just change it and u will know..
