yup, courtesy from optimum with some other works as well.

Yes, indeed it was a courtesy price from Optimum. I also replaced 2 x water hoses (beneath inlet manifold), gear box mountings and re-aligned camshalf.

Herbert,

Still the seals for my double vanos? Wanna keep 1st...before mine breaks down..

Your original seals will not break down, so to speak. It only get harden and henceforth, timing of camshalf will be completely out.

Yes, bro bmw7833 is correct. I did mine (replaced with Beisan seals) this morning and got a shock of my life. My inlet camshaft is out by almost one full height of the alu bar!!! No wonder my consumption was high at 11.6L/100km (city) and 10.6L/100km (outstation). After replacement of seals, took a test drive and immediately felt improvement and smooth for low end torque. I also met another member at the workshop who had his seals replaced last week for his e39 528i single vanos. He mentioned same improvement for low end torque plus he is now getting 9.2L/100km city driving.

my fuel consumption has worsen since the vanos seal replacement.
i'm addicted to slamming the accelerator pedal now....:D

after you have changed, then only you'll notice that your car had problem...:top:

the original seal is made of Buna-N rubber, which is rated at 95deg. C
our engine temparature already exceed 95.
so, the seal will harden and the vanos will not function accurately adjusting the inlet/outlet valve timing . be it at idling or at high rpm
you may not feel anything wrong with your car now probably you are too use to it.

No need to change the rubber gasket. Just apply rubber silicone will do.

From Beisan's web site, it says that the original BMW vanos seals is only good for about 25K to 30K km. Even with vanos seals failure, you can still drive around but you won't be getting the performance of a beemer. I have talked to a few experienced BMW mechanics and they too were unaware of vanos seals failure and its reprecussions for they depend too much on the diagnostic equipment.

No need to change the engine gasket right since you're not removing the head only top valve cover removed...
