Johnj,

Did you do any diagnostic checking? My car also doesn't show anything until the tool is plugged in.

daiichi.. apparently, you are not the only person facing this problem before.

refer to e46fanatic forum below.

Jarance, is this means that changing the seals may lead to other critical errors within the vanos system? Therefore it is wise to say that if your vanos are working fine....no point to mess around with it. Also beisan website specifically mention the problem affecting cars from the M52 engines i.e. E39 cars which uses single vanos system. i think i make a mistake to change the seals on my car which was fine initially. furthermore i forgot to mention that after changing the seals, my car engine idling became erratic during cold start but on the original seal it was fine.

Daiichi,

I would like to suggest that you email the President of Beisan Systems and relate to him the problems you are currently facing after replacement of your vanos seals. His name is Mr Rajaie Qubain and his email is rajaie@beisansystems.com. Just mention to him that you are from BMWCM.

bro, get it check out first. The error was first register in Nov 2010 and it still there after the run in period.

write to beisan first and seek their advise on what to do.

Hi all,
Finally got my D-VANOS seals installed on my 31K Km ride, after having the seals laying around for months. The old seals don't look worn, but the ride is immediately more responsive at low gears after the change. I'm just wondering what it would be like after the wearing-in period. Good stuff. Must add that WP Auto did a good clean job.
Thanks again to Herbert for the gb.

Bro Fugowitz,

I was at WP Auto yesterday and saw your nice grey Z4. Ah Leong took great care of your car and had the engine compartment cleaned thoroughly. Enjoy the smoothness of our straight 6s.

Hello Bro Herbert,
Didn't know you go to WP which is far out from your territory. Don't get misled by WP, my engine bay has always being that clean. Clean enough to fry an egg.
Cheers!

Yes, i will ask the workshop to inspect the solenoid if there is any misfitting. Anyway how do you tell if it is fitted wrongly?

Daiichi,

Have you got your problem resolved ? I had the 'Exhaust vanos end position not reached' code 2 years ago. And it was the exhaust side solenoid acting up.

I think one way to confirm is to swap the intake and exhaust solenoid, the code should appear to the intake cam side.

I have not changed my seals yet, I will do a Vanos Leak Test with GT1 first.

hi IanDaddy,
I went back a second time to the workshop that did my beisan seals and they swapped the intake and exhaust solenoid valves and also recheck the vanos seals fitting. After restarting and clearing the codes, the car was taken for a test drive to logged in any errors.
The error code is still there even swapping the intake and exhaust solenoid. The error for exhaust vanos end position not reached still appears. Next, the workshop tried changing the vanos sensor on the exhaust side with a new one but problem still there.

Now the workshop is running out of ideas and they want me to leave my car for few days over there.

Daiichi,

There is a spring loaded little piston where the solenoid is screwed in. I hope that is installed correctly cause that piston act as a 3 way valve to direct the oil to advance or retard the cam.

The spring in the exhaust vanos piston may not be installed properly or I hope not but there is a possibility the timing is off.

Changed the seal last week and notice much improvement on the torque especially on lower RPM

I just did a Vanos test on my M54 with GT1. The exhaust advance and retard time is within the bmw specified range but I think is still sluggish especially the retard time. The deviation of the cam was 2 degrees outside the acceptable range.

So it is time to get the seals out of the glove box.

If any member with M54 who has recently changed the seals would like to volunteer , I can do a test on his M54 to compare results.

M52 can but I was hoping to take a look at the test result of a M54 with new seals.

Did mine around a month ago... after installing this came out ... "valve timing never reach optimum position..." ... just went to service my ride 2 days ago (after clocking more then 500km after installation) the fault code hilang... so far so good, low RPM respond is good and slight improvement on FC ... dono whether is has anything to do with the fact that i just overhaul my GB
