Bro, he bought the seal from me and brought over to Optimum. About the cost, I am not sure.

Salam Bro.

Could you kindly advise me the cost for the replacement of the Vanos seals you did at Optimum? Did you bring along your own seals or they supplied theirs? Tqvm for your advise.

Tqvm Bro for the info.

I miss-out on your GB. By any chance could you advise me if there are extra set? or where to buy from - eBay? I am will to organize it myself and maybe organize another GB if there are takes.

Cheers.

mariff32,

Optimium is selling Beisan double vanos seals for RM250.00 as compared to group buy price of RM180.00 Quite reasonable for Optimium to make a profit of RM70.00. Labor/workmanship is another RM250.00 as it is quite labor intenstive taking about 3 hours altogether.

Only for engines M52TU, M54, M56 and Euro S50.

Is the Vanos seal the same across all engine that you mention above or different for each engine? e.g. Euro S50

Received mine last saturday, and got them replaced today at Pro Auto Glenmarie.

Amazing results, very good throttle response, smooth transmission and engine not screaming anymore :rock:. Thanks Herbert for recommending.

At the same time, managed to kao tim with the workshop oso.. They agreed to offer RM200 for the labour (specially for OM), for the vanos seal replacement.

Yahoo!!!!!!!!

Good to hear that bro. I have been asked so many times which workshop should go for vanos seal replacement. Now another option to go.

Good to hear of your positive feedback. Your engine has been "suffering" for so long with degraded vanos seals.

Herbert,

i a newbie, wish to get help from you also.
i wan change a beisan vanos seal may i know where to get it?
i went a lot work they don't have ready stock.
mine is E53 x5 3.0 engine.

Thank you.

Eddy,

You can go to Optimum Motorworks at Kayu Ara to replace your vanos seals as they keep stock of Beisan vanos seals kits. Optimum's boss is Jason Foo and his contact no is (012) 308-1891.

This is what i realise in comparison from the feedback of others.

If your car was well maintained by the previous owner (i.e on the dot or earlier engine oil change interval), your original seals will be very much intact (not brittle & broken into pieces like keropok) during removal. Only noticeable defect is that the outer rings of the seals will be flattened instead of curve (when new).

Mine was the case of it looking perfectly intact and not brittle. Just flattened on the outer surface when it glides in & out during its stroke. Previous owner had a beautiful record of maintenance. Which is why i did not feel any immediate or rather significant improvements.

But nonetheless, to my surprise i had an error code thrown out "vanos mechanically jammed" after replacing it. NEVER had such error before. And of course after sometime of running in, it developed this slight hesitation during acceleration from stand still. At around say 1.5K.

It's something like this. It accelerates (with my foot all the way down) from say 700 odd RPM (idle) to about 1.5K, holds it there about 1-1.5 seconds, and then it picks up speed.

Dear sifus,

My E60 is also having the same symptom. Hesitation at 1.5k rpm. But no error code though. I have changed the seal last week at optimum & run in more than 500km. I wonder how bimmerholic solve his problem.

Any idea? Thanks in advance.

I found out at a much later time at a different workshop(B) that the workshop(A) that did the vanos seal replacement didn't properly set the timings of the cams right. And thus the code thrown and the hesitation felt. The cam timings were off quite significantly.

And you guessed as much, that was the last time that workshop(A) ever touched my car.

Go check your cam timings once again.

haha same story like me. just before raya i sent my car for normal servicing at this workshop B. when scanning they asked me who did the vanos seal replacement because the timings & cams are off from the tolerance. i guess it's just a culture for some workshops to blame the others.
