Just to feedback on my part, did mine a few weeks back. Initially, after changing the seals, I didn't drive the car for more than one week. When I started the car, there was erratic idling and the car suddenly died when i came out from the house (like there was hesitation when i press the throttle).
Scanned the car and got the following error codes:-
1. vanos exhaust camshaft, end position not reached
2. adaptation value outside tolerance
3. camshaft block (something like that)
4. misfiring at certain cylinders.
I cleared the error code with the scanner and started using the car daily until it reached the break-in period at 320 km. I scanned a few times and there were no more error codes. In addition, the slight vibration i feel every morning during cold start totally gone. Now feeling the low end torque and loving it. Really recommended upgrade for those who wants more thrill to the ride.
However, I do noticed the exhaust sounds a lil bit "sporty" after changing the seals. Its not a bad sound, but more like a smooth flow type with low rumble of the engine, which I like. I wonder if it is because of the vanos seals or it has anything to do with the fact i changed the pre-cat lambda sensors at the same time.
Did mine and run in for whole tank. Second tank started to floor it and definite increased in low end torque. No more hesitation at 3k and pulled smoothly to redline. Awesome stuff. Now have to give back my new set to a kind brother who spare me his set first. Thanks
hello all. my beisan vanos seal just recently reach me. no i'm planning to get them replace the old one. but after going through all posts within the this topic i got several questions to ask.
1. i saw some of us replace other items together to save time and labor cost. ie the valve cover gasket, vanos steel gasket etc. any other items like hoses or seals worth replaced together?
2. are the workshops proposed willing to do only the labor and we buy the spare parts? reason asking is some shops dislike that kind of customers since they got no chance to make profit from the spare parts marked up price.
3. what's the indicative price for labor? perhaps somebody kind can pm me so noob like me won't kena kencing bulat2 later. hehe.
1. If u never replace those things, better to replace in one shot la, parts are cheap but labor is same.
2. Why not ask the mechanic directly instead of asking here? We are not the boss..
3. Around RM250, some said RM150 (in Ipoh).

thanks bro. plan to visit BA tomorrow and get all necessary items to be changed together. besides, what does run in actually mean? what i understand is cannot rev more that certain rpm but what's the limit?

old valve cover gasket. seems like it was glued several times already. perfect time to change. new one fitted on the right pic.
positive:
1. can straightly feel the power at low end torque. no idea due to the new vanos seals or other things. changed together the radiator system full set and change EO.
negative:
1. got engine light warning came out. diagnosis result indicated "fuel trim" error. mechanic said need to change the "ventilation valve" to rectify. the problem sometimes there sometimes not. but once happens it disturbs the air flow and causes misfiring.
2. labor charge quite high compared to standard shared here.
just to share my experience driving with new beisan vanos seal. on my way back to kl from penang my driving was full of excitement. car felt much more responsive, no more a loss power feeling whenever stepping on the gas pedal even with a brief step. :burnout:
so far no improvement in fc since i did not ease my foot on the pedal. pedal to metal all da way.
I'm itching to install mine, however I've only replaced my valve gasket few months ago.. will it have to get a new gasket if I remove it now? Already changed the rubber seals as well.
Any other things required to be change other than the vanos seal while the mech is in there?

no idea what best to recommend. the valve gasket only cost you about rm70/pc if you plan to change new. rubber seals no need to change eventhough they cost a fry. where do u plan to make yours?
Finally replaced my vanos seal after keeping it for a year plus. Current mileage is 100k. Can feel the different immediately when i left the workshop. very responsive at low end RPM even at stand still. I felt the gear changes also become smoother, engine sound is quieter ans sweeter. Really good stuff. should had it changed earlier... haha
After reading some of the reviews and some users encountering error codes n all. Is it safe to open up the top or i could be opening up a can of worms? As in should i be adopting a since its not broken, dun fix it mentality?
Knowing how sensitive BMWs are.
Could you kindly advise me the cost for the replacement of the Vanos seals you did at Optimum? Did you bring along your own seals or they supplied theirs? Tqvm for your advise.
