Hi,

I collect my new 316i on Friday from Seremban.

During I drive back from KL via Lekas at speed 120km my car sterling are going on left and the sterling become very light and not stable.

When I collect my car, I have asking the SA do I need to do balancing and alignment? He told me no need ..because bmw already done it and the workshop only fill the air.

So I stop at petrol station and check my air pressure. ..OMG! !!!!

The pressure gauge showing 400 kpa/ 60 bar. But we only need 200kpa. ..is 2X more air pressure. ..

I call back SA and said the workshop is Bangala workshop not BMW standard. ....

Call BMW Voice at 1800-88-8808 and give your feedback if u r convinced the tyres were over inflated.
Bearing in mind that petrol station tyre pressure measuring machine isn't the most reliable/accurate..
Btw, congrats on your new ride

Over inflating your tyres wont make your car to swerve left unless the wheel alignment is off. Sometimes it's could be caused by the uneven road surface level on highway for purpose of water dispersion. Try driving on another road after you corrected the tyre pressure to confirm. If you are certain that something is wrong then you may call your dealer. At least give them a chance before you call BMW Malaysia.

I do pressure check at 2nd petrol station. Is same reading now after release air pressure to 200 kpa.

Check your tyre maximum pressure rating and see if it has been exceeded. Exceeding the maximum air pressure may cause permanent damage to your tyre in which case you may claim from BMW. Get a good tyre shop to check your tyres.

Thank goodness you found the problem as over inflating the tyres can lead to premature failure of the RFT.

I once encountered an issue with a petrol station air pump whereby it over inflated my tyres to 45psi+ despite me setting the correct pressure and I noticed something was off when I drove out of the station so I continued to drive to the next available station and was shocked to find the problem.

Lesson learnt - carry your own pressure gauge.

As for your issue, I don't get what your SA mean by the workshop is bangala workshop...did he mean the workshop is manned by bangalas? If so that's the first BMW dealer I've known who hires foreign 'technicians' in their service centre but his response is unreasonable. You might wanna have a talk with Millennium Welt's service manager and if things can't be settled then please call BMW Voice.

Is me tell SA their workshop quality like Bangala standard. .just make tyres pump in full air pressure with using pressure gauge to check

SA told me the tyre can claim in 1000 km if having any problems.

But I don't think in 1000km the tyre will show offset one side although the alignment or air pressure having problems

This is my 1st BMW. .... so I have no idea how BMW voice or service center response?

Should I send to the tyre shop to check everything or send back to BMW?

Sure every owner will feel very upset if the new car need to visit hospital in 1 week time

BTW after 3days driving. ... I very happy and enjoy driving on my 316i only I worry the tyres issue

An advice to all new BMW owners. Head straight to alignment shop to inspect your alignment after collecting your car from showroom.

All new BMW are factory filled with excessive tyre prssure to prevent them from having flat spots due to prolong period of parking at the car storage yard.

There's a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) checklist and tyre pressure is one of the item. Dealer simply tick and never really check. It happened to me 7 years ago and it is still happening. My car still go straight eventhough excessive tyre pressure. But only notice excessive Tyre wear on one of my rear tyre due to wrong camber. Damaged my one my my RFT tyres.. expensive lesson, I went back to the dealer and demanded the dealer to inspect and rectify my camber issue. Dealer say alignment warranty only covered for 2 weeks, finally I made the sales person paid for my alignment job at a near by tyre shop but damage was done.

Astroboy, u can't claim back the tyre?

Wear and tear ma. Besides when I notice about the irregular tyre wear, it was over a year. I have a habit of not checking my alignment periodically unless car pulling one side or notice irregular tyre wear. And dealer only provides alignment warranty for 2 weeks, beyond that you are on your own. Also we are supposed to check alignment periodically which I didn't do. I am at fault too. Can't claim warranty which only cover manufacturer defect ma. Even if they give me 1 new tyre, the other tyre is 50% worn, I won't use match tyres with different tread balance on my car, very dangerous during high speed. The salesman saw me so persistent, he asked me to go this tyre shop outside and he paid for the bill. Better than nothing lor.

The RFT warning is actually triggered if there is a change in tyre circumference to one of the tyre in comparison to the rest of the tyres. The change in circumference is caused by change in tyre pressure and it revolution per minute will increase when there is a reduction is circumference measurement, in comparison to the rest of the tyres.

Our car do not have a tyre pressure monitor to take pressure reading. The RFT tyre monitor actually is taking readings from the DSC module which capture individual tyre rotation rate and make calculated guess to warn us if it suspected a flat. If all 4 tyres deflate at the same rate, it worn trigger the RFT alarm.

I have shared this knowledge over and over again and it's covered in the vehicle onwer's manual. Do read up or search the forum.
