Assalam/Hi,

Currently i am receiving this error code. Survey from outside forum says this is happened due to improper signal that the ECU got comparing to the gearbox itself e.g. Gear at D but ECU still receive N.

I notice the shifting from the gearbox side is no issue, only if observe at the instrument cluster the signal is intermittent, sometime it indicate properly sometime when we shift there is no gear indicator at the cluster. I need to move the stick a bit forward and back and the signal comes out.

Does anyone experienced this, what is the solution? Thanks in advance.

oh this is at the side of the gearbox rite, it is called gearbox switch?
i opened up the centre gearshift console already
found one shaft connected to the stick and the other end goes down
this shaft is connected to this switch is it

so basically the flow is like

gear stick--gearbox switch--gearbox (for shifting) and to ECU

found several connector at the centre console, does it make any difference if i perform cleaning by contact cleaner those connector

please correct me, i am newbie, i just bought this E46. thanks

i suspect this may be due to misalign, as actually the indicator does shows but not exactly at the position itself
it may shows before or after the transition, and when it sits at that position, it may or may not show gear position, depend on luck

BTW, check the electrical connector as well. Sometime, water do get inside it. if it does, just dry it and reconnect.

more convenient if got stand jack..

Hope you have a high jack and stand. You need that to access the bottom of car.

hi, manage to get under the car yesterday and yes i able to fine tune the shaft
looks ok after some checking
will remove the stand jack and try for a test run see how it performs
hopefully no more fault code come out

thanks

hi until now the symptom still persist, i already set the shaft few times but still the indicator at the cluster missing sometimes.
any serviceable parts there, because i saw it is connected directly to the gearbox

May I know the position of the gear shift position when the picture is taken?

Also what GB manufacturer is your GB?

Strange that you dont have the selector switch for E46/N42. Could it be that your model have the switch
in the gear shifter itself (same like E90 model)

hi i believe the selector is at P when the picture is taken
the arrangement of my gearbox is the same as the sample picture that u upload rite

i had try setting it at P and N currently
setting at P is worst, always gear position missing
setting at N is not good also, but at least better than at P
when i try loose the shaft at the gearbox and play around the gearbox console, the gearbox position doesnt change, means the mechanism at the gearbox is the one giving signal right. please correct me

now doing another jack up, want to set it at D position see how :(
