E90 325i sluggish start?

yea, those parts gotta be inspected by other AB / SA / IA just to be sure the discount is worth the change. i bet they change the tires, its just the suspension (BMW service will change it right?) and the bushings are the main worry.

One thing is for sure the DT cars do not follow whats in the owners manual for running in the car... I for one will not buy a DT car as well hehe unless I intend to only keep the car short term.

Astro is right Alex. You should see what we get to do to the cars :). The tires need changing within 2 days. The car is left running the entire day and all we are doing a really short runs with the pedal mashed all the way to get up to speed quickly in a short distance in DS mode on a 325. Turning off the DSC and purposely over/under steering the car (which is the best part of the training by the way) and doing it repeatedly. Again and again and again.

So for me, I won't buy these cars..no way. Unless it's sold of at really really really low.

Ya the DT cars wear out their tires by the time the session ends.

Most of what we did consisted of hard acceleration in DS mode up to 70km/h in a very short distance and then immediately slamming on the brakes while maneuvering the car around cones (lots of cones got bumped). During the oversteer sessions, the cars often end up doing a 360 spin (with DSC off) with lots of tyre smoke. Then there were the timed slalom runs where we tried to outdo each other (more cone bumping, hard braking/acceleration).

Finally the instructors took us for 2 laps around the Sepang circuit going flat out in 2nd-4th gear (manual mode, engines revved all the way into the red zone) at up to 200km/h and taking corners at 100-140km/h, with lots of hard braking.

So the tires are gone by the end of the day, and I am sure some other parts get pretty trashed too.

I just read this blog by Rachael Toh. see http://racheltoh.wordpress.com/2008/04/

In her blog of 17.4.2008 she compares her experience driving a 320i vs 325i.

She states that in respect of her 325i,

"Power

Very POWERFUL

Except slower pick up when the car stops and then go..Ie: hitting the traffic lights"

That was the point I was making when I started this thread.

BMW would like to use the word "Civilised power delivery". Look at it as a feature, then u will be alright. Afterall, BMW is not trying to build a track car here but a day-2-day fun commuter with good driving dynamics. And the definition of "FUN" is subjective to every individual. Rachel even commented that her loan 320i E90 felt no better than her old CRV SUV, that I have no comment la. I have not driven a CRV before but I am sure the premium I paid for my E90 320i is well justified over a CRV la.

Unless BMW view this as a "problem" or else, your expectation of this "problem" rectified in the facelift variant would be unlikely.

And I'm pretty sure Rachel is on "D" and not "DS" or "M".. experience might be different.

Well seems like the sluggishness affects some 325i but not all. Reminds me of my and JPBs test drive on the 325i sports with 36 kms on the odo. A slight lag, but I just attributed it to a tight engine. Rachel's has over 7+k kms on it dy. Seems like older batches non-sports 325i owners do not have this symptom. Initially I thought it may be due to the 18's + RFTs on the sports, but I remember tekaning JPBs 323i with 18's 189 wheels + RFT and his car didn't have any lag at all. So out goes that theory.

I agree with Astroboy somewhat. I don't think what Rachel said vindicates what you (Anxious) said or even your approach. She doesn't see it as a problem, neither do all of us who own or have extensively driven the E90 325i. The latter is a much heavier car than the 320i, so it always takes more to build the inertia. Even then, it's only for a slight moment and thereafter, the 6-potter has more than adequate torque / power certainly compared to the 320i. For me, I guess I never noticed it cos I have gotten used to driving an E46 325i with similar characteristic for 5 years before my E92. It's just something I have gotten used to so much so that when I drive my new lightweight Smartforfour, I find it shoots off a wee bit too much from start stop conditions.

Yeah, I think that spanking new 325i Sports we test drove had a very tight engine.

Oh yeah, 6-speed SMG-type gearbox! With 105 bhp, the car is pretty quick. I was telling some fellas the other day I gave this E60 (could be a 520i) a shock when he rudely tionged me the other day! I was gonna take you out for lunch in it the other day when you couldn't make it last minute.

Back to topic - Eh, I think you got similar experience when you drive your wifey's Jazz right, the weight difference causing the Jazz to move off the line better in normal driving?

No wonder you were talking about DCM (C&C Mutiara) in another thread JPB! 323i and Smartforfour...how yuppy but urbane can you get :D

We keep telling anxious that those who own E90s don't see/feel a problem with the take off but he doesn't want to believe us :)

JPB, when are u going to take us on a ride in your new car ?? Smartfor4 is a nice car!

Hehehe... well I did pay 25% off the list price for it. The E92 was getting too much attention at the stalls etc and I wanted an economical yet fun runabout for errands and such. It turned out to be quite a zippy car. The SMG type gearbox is fun and the handling is quite confidence inspiring.
