I think you are reading the fuel consumption in km / L instead of L/100km. On average I'm getting 14L/100km in the city like Rachel. On the highway I get about 8-ish.

This is typical experience when you have previously only driven Japanese cars. Yes, this is normal. The car starts off in 2nd gear to save fuel and provide a smooth ride. It also prevents wheel spin in slippery conditions like wet roads and snow (but of course we don't get snow here but the car is a conti car remember?). If you want to be more aggressive in your acceleration flip the gear shift to DS mode. It will have more acceleration than your 2.4L Honda accord. No need to play with the DTC.

(I had the 2.4L Honda accord and now the 325iS so I can relate perfectly). Welcome to the club. :)

At the end of the day, your right foot plays the most significant role in your fuel consumption.
