Perhaps your expectations need to be re-sync'd. Comfortable perfomance for sure but nothing espcially powerful esp for the weight since its only a 2.5.

I'm still waiting for KL2DC to revert on how to "reset" the gearbox since like many here, I do a lot of town driving.

I have no complaints in this aspect. E28driver is right. Sluggish compared to what heh?

If its really bad, the auto E90 325i would not sprint to 100kmh in 7.7secs. If its sluggish, then the E90 325i even quicker on a rolling run

i dont give a shit of whatever sluggishness start which i dont really feel it. go drive a proton wira 1.5 auto and tell me your E90 is sluggish...

bear in mind that you have 218bhp behind your steering wheel, what is the 0.2 second lag? rite?

My view on this sluggish start might be a little bit different from fellow forumers here...

A sluggish start can actually tell quite a lot of stories about your car. But its only applicable to normal run and then suddently felt the sluggishness.

If you realised your UDM start to feel a little bit sluggish, my advice is better to give it a check before the sluggishness get more serious with some hidden 'injuries'.

My 2cent... Dont shot me ok... HeeHee

As I said earlier, this is just not my "own" preception but also shared by both Torque and Motoring magazines earlier this year also ran the same article on a shootout b/w A4 1.8T, 325i & IS250 and said this about the E90 325i:-

"Unlike the sprightly IS250, move offs from standstill tend to be sluggish."

The article however went on to say:-

"But once it is up to speed, the car really flies".

Dont you find this disturbing on a RM300k car?

I decided to post this again after my friend shared his similar experience.

Is it confined to the CKDs, the foreign mags I have read have never brought up this issue.

anxious, most of the forumer's already answer their opinion on the issue with their e90. My experience with e92/335i feels a bit sluggish at first. the sales agent did mention to me it will reach peek performance once the engine is properly break-in. after nearly 2 month driving it. the engine is more responsive, no more sluggish and the engine sound is far more better when i first got the car from SA. I think e90 engine is one BIG engine. need to properly break-in. really need to floor-it sometime. difference from the inferior small FSI engine. :burnout:

You not need to concern about it, your experience by test drove the car not own it. we don't feel any issue on this. it is just the character of the e90. :top:

Thanks Velocity.

My interest in this topic is bcos I aspire it to be my next car, so of course I am a bit concerned over this "character" of the E90.

It is not meant as a critism of the car itself. I apologise if I hv offended anyone with my query.

Thanks again.

PS. If there is something not quite right as to the car set up, the software can always be tweeked by the manufacturer but if everyone is too" embarrassed" to talk about such matters openly then how is the manufacturer going to know. A true enthusiast would strive to make his car and the model better and not sweep "imperfections" under the carpet and pretend it doesnt exist.

Again let me stress that this post does not seek to offend anyone. I am just thinking aloud.

Cheers!

Bro anxious, nothing to apologies laa. BMW might have their own reason by doing this (conservatively mode) perhaps for better engine management for longer engine life hehehehe. But this maybe true. why the 335i quoted as 306HP when ProCeed upgrade can easily boost it up to 400HP!!!. so BMW may be a bit conservative, It is up to us to opt for some sport tune mode later on.

I googled the topic and found this thread:-

So it seems that this is a "characteristic " of the car.

I wonder whether they will "fix" it when the car is facelifted next year?

To be honest, I think its localized to a few experiences instead of the norm, as myself and a many other E90 owners do not experience this. Besides, BMW will be getting slammed right left and center for this "characeristic" by the world auto journalists if its an inherent problem. Could also be due to fuel, DSC etc as others suggests. I am running on Petronas Primax btw. I wonder for those who experience this, what fuel are u guys running on?

I'm running on Shell and I dun seems to have this problem on my ride. Not with the previous engine and also the new engine now :)

I agree with Velocity that the engine has to be suitably run-in before achieving optimal performance. I notice this with my E92 i.e. the engine is improving noticeably as the miles pile on. So, I don't think my car has this problem. Yet again, it was pretty much the same with my ex-E46 325i. Question is, when does a BMW 6-potter achieve maximum run-in? I noticed it takes a bit longer than simpler or Jap engines. I have done about 7,000 kms so far and am expecting or hoping it gets even more free-revving after 10,000 kms.

Test e90 320i on last Saturday, quick respond when overtake, may b due to the new car, felt more pick up power than my car..:top:

Yup, the E90 320i has much better usable torque that the previous E46 318i but it won't win any drag race, still as undramatic when you floor the pedal. The new E90 325i is a lot more enjoyable in that respect esp at higher revs.

But what made me unsatisfy was the size of seat, too small, no well holding for my back..

5 Series Seat More Big & More Comfortable For Big Size ppl, hehe.......

I Have To Squeeze In to The 3 Series Everytime Wana Drive My Mum 3 Series.....

sprint booster

quick fix to the characteristic lag inherent to most BMWs. install the spring booster and you will feel the response to your throttle is instanteous.

however this simple n easy to install device is not cheap...it also doesnt increase your bhp. check the bmw sg forum for more information.

IIRC, the E90 325i under "normal" mode is programmed to start in 2nd gear to ensure smooth start-stop traffic condition. perhaps a quick switch to "sport" mode should do the trick.
A4 and VW GTi does not do that to their "normal" setting which could be a bit jerky if you're a bit heavy footed during traffic jams.
I think I read this in a Star article during the review of the A4 2.0 FSI.
my next car ideally should be the E90 325i sport / E60 525i sport ( first must have the dream ).:top:

I have test driven both the E90 325i sport & E60 525i sport and prefer the later.

In a few years it will both cost the same on the second hand market and you could easily pick up either.

For me, I am dreaming of a E46 325Ci M-sport which would be very affordable in a few years time. Of course the chalennge would be finding one in good condition.

I recall seeing a Blue 325Ci a few years back in Selatan showroom at Beach Street. Have any of you guys seen the car in Pg?
