ouch ouch and ouch.....

but I like how they described "to hang engine with crossmember remove due for engine oil sump gasket replacement" which in effect was just to have the engine oil sump gasket replaced.....for rm 450 labor.... :64: ...and yes we need to put an engine support beam prior removing the lower cross member to access the oil sump but rm 450?

i personally think the parts and labor are both on the hi side....eg BMW coolant at bav auto is at RM38

Dear Bro Moots

Thanks for the triple ouch.... but at the same time while the car was there for the past 3 days I received update via Whatapps picture of what they are doing and at what stages. Prior to that I do also received a full estimate before they commenced work and only if you agreed and they even run through you what needed to be rectified. No pressure was applied and all repairs options was suggested. The level of services shown justified the slightly higher premium. Oh... I even got a full tank of fuel as discount...

hey guys

been away for looong time. I wanna ask for recommended workshop where they dont mind if i bring in my own parts? cos most w/shops make money from mark ups on parts so they normally discourage us bringing our own parts. any help is appreciated. thankss

Hi Jason & All Sifus!

I'm a newbie.... introed in the Newbie section.

Just got my first UDM last month, a 2007 LCI 523i 6 Speed Manual. Car was previously German Embassy official car. Second owner was the embassy's First Secretary. I'm the 3rd owner.

The German was kind enough to do a lub change before handing over the car to me. But I was told to watch out for the battery and front brake discs.

Last month this is what I spent on the car:

1. Changed Battery N100 plus coding - RM720.00 (went to the same popular workshop where bro moots said he had his changed for RM550, was I Chopped?)

2. DIY Changed a pair of hood struts (dampers) - RM127.20 (bought the damper from BA SS2 @ RM60/piece + GST)

3. Cheapo security tint from Groupon @ RM169.00... hahahaha... The car never had any tint on it since 2007 coz it was always parked indoor

Car was 89K kms during the last month's lub change. The sticker at the windscreen writes 5K to next service. I'm thinking of buying the parts at BA SS2 and go to Euro Tech for the service to save some $$$... that't what I did with all my previous cars.

When I was at BA SS2 buying the hood dampers, the counter guy said front disc is around RM460~480/piece depending on the size. But yours is RM300/pair? That's a big different.

Items that I want to tackle one by one:

1. Front brake discs (was told the pads are still thick)

2. Plastic Jacking Pad (I notice 1 is missing, any idea how much is it?)

3. Tyres.... not in very good conditions, but mine is with odd size, 225/R16/55, original rim style 242, looks smallish for the car. Perhaps should start to look for used BMW rims?

4. Wiper blades.... plan to buy parts from BA & DIY

5. Hood insulator (it is sagging a little near the firewall end and touching the engine cover leaving a small stain/mark on the engine cover, should I replace it?)

6. Paint touch up... yea... lotsa lotsa dents and scratch

Oh yea, I ordered a ZHP Short Shifter Manual Knob form US. It's on its way to Malaysia now. Can't wait! :D

Oooooohhhh ...an e60 with manual manual tranny with low mileage!Yummy....

1. battery RM around thereabouts la bro
2. front brake discs depends on the brand.if ori memang mahal. If your current disc thickness is within wear limits,go have it skimmed.RM 25 a pop.
3. replace the plastic jack pad...have read that it emits wind noise if missing.circa rm50 per piece
4. tyres....go 18.....or at least 17
5. hood insulator shrinks with age.up to you to change.

on my prevous manual e34,i drove the car for 10 years without having the need to change the clutch plate.but of crs i don't live in KL and i don't go thru traffic jams to/from work.

enjoy the manual tranny....

Hi,

Talking about battery, my e60 2007 Japanese model, i need to change that too. Any recommendation on which brand and type of battery is good?

At the same time, I have the active steering error and Drive control system error too. Is time to send my UDM for sensor cleaning.

Hi bro moots...

Yeah.... I thought I read somewhere in your post in Dec 2014 that you replaced your battery for RM550? Big difference with RM720 even including GST if you ask me...

You from BBN?
