bro,
Of course, you don't change anything if it's not leaking. Normally the problem starts with topping up 200-300ml of coolant weekly. If there are no leaking from elsewhere than it could be the radiator?
For mine, there were spots of leaking at the side of the radiator and "Engine Overheat" sign appear occassionally at the iDrive.

I'm not sure, but I may have been swayed by my mechanic. I just got my secondhand 2005/2008 e60 and after driving it for a month, sent it into the Heritage GGarage at Ara Damansara for the first service. I was told it's safer to have the radiator changed (RM1,150), to avoid any future problems - more preventive than anything else. Was advised to change:

Thermostat (RM295), Top Hose (RM395), Bottom Hose (RM235), 7L engine oil (RM385), oil filter (RM55). Labour for engine oil (RM60), labour for cooling system replacement (RM280).

What do the seasoned ones think?

I think it's rather on the high side, just take one item for example, the oil filter should be around RM 45. Overall labour cost also appear high.

p/s: I recently changed the radiator BEHR for RM 800

I did mine at WP Auto, Pandan Mewah (Albert Fang 012-2017792, GPS N03 07.737. E101 46.133)
I bought the ATF oil and filter while the rest provided by mechanic.

Any recommended BMW service centres in PJ with reasonable prices too? Also, where do you buy your oil and filter from? I should go and buy my own items next time.

I'm not familiar with PJ service centres, perhaps other members could recommend?

As for the parts, you could get them from Bavarian Auto, Bomin, Inner Power...etc but you better have an understanding from the mechanic first as some of them "do not encourage" this for obvious $$$ reasons.

Hi all, share my damages:

Oil Pipe RM180
6HP Gear Oil RM70 x 7
Oil Pan RM380
Bearing RM220
Coolant RM55

I encountered some issue with heat at the leg area underneath the steering wheel when driving my E60 523i. Initially have no idea whr the heat came from but it could be very hot especially if driving outstation. I have to redirect the aircon at full blast at my leg area.

When I sent my car for alignment, balancing and also front brake pad change, I took that opportunity to ask the mechanic there to have a look at the heat problem. They found out that the heat was generated by the flap which can't be opened or closed due to servo motor issue. They said it'd take 2-3 days to diagnose this problem as they have to open up a lot of panels underneath the steering wheel. I was told there are also a number (5-6) of servo motors there. They'd only know which servo motor was the issue after they have opened up.

Would appreciate your comments or inputs if you have encountered similar problems before and how you have solved them. Thanks.

The last time I had leak in one of the radiator hoses on my 2004 E60, I had to change a complete set of 4 or 6 hoses (i forget its quite a while) as I was told bmw doesn't sell individual hoses as the joints are not the normal clip ones. So it was a set of pre-connected hoses.

Have i been snoked ?? you've listed prices for individual hoses ?

shlim8, I think you better run jauh-jauh from that mechanic. You definitely can change the radiator hoses piece by piece. The only one where they will normally advise you to change all the 'connected' hoses is the oil separator.

Hi to all sifus,

Just got my car serviced. Oil changed total to RM441 with only semi synthetic. If im not mistaken air filter changed about
RM114 but forgotten the price for oil filter. Labour RM15. Btw, my mechanic did not have machine to reset eventhough i have serviced my car. Any place that can just help me do resetting?

**Moving this post to here instead ;) **

2 days ago I sent my car for regular oil change and also to check on my air con where it sometimes refused to give me cool air :p
Surprisingly, during the routine check we found out that there was an oil leak!!
After investigation the mech found out the culprit was the oil cooler.

Service done in Jackson Auto Conversion in Sungai Petani. The closest BMW workshop to my place (I think the only one in SP) and so far the owner is very friendly. Would be nice if they have water dispenser or vending machine at their place so customer could buy some drinks while waiting for the repairs/services.

What do you think of the price? Are they on the high side? low side? Acceptable? Would love to hear more from you guys.

Cheers.

Wah so bad the coolant till like that? How is it related to oil cooler leak?

Oh my........that's bad!

Yeah, seems to me the radiator was jammed full with oil goo.
Although, I have little idea of what causing that.

So sorry Peter, I was not accessing this website for a little while and didnt see your question.

I went to Autopex at Glenmarie there. The boss is Kevin. Tel: 03-5513 9663. I was introduced thr by our fellow member AbuHassan. The mechanic who's handling my car is Ong.

You have the same problem?

Btw, any reason why we should change the radiator even when it's still working fine? :) I was never recommended to get it changed, lol

Bro,
Ask for the simple water pressure test, it will point u where the leak is when the pressure gauge drops in reading, but be extra careful not to exceed the pressure value as it could also give other problems (affected other cooling lines/pipes/hoses to sip through...)
