Guys, pls take note, I sent my car to AB today for servicing and they informed me to change tge manifold intake(some plastic parts) as its a known issue that it will crack(brittle) and if that happens, the cracked pieces may damage the engine.Mine was under warranty claim, so no.charge. but u guys pls take note of this.Surprisingly the 320d and f10 don't have this problem.

:listen:... you sure what they are telling you bro? which AB outlet did you go to? FYI, there are no plastic parts located in the air intake manifold. Yes there is a problem with the IM but not because of certain parts becomes brittle over time :4:..

The real proble is the type of diesel that one uses for its ride whereby certain "brand" of diesel tend to produce a sizeable amount of sludge that will accummulate at the manifold outlet. This will, over time, cause the flap not able to function to its full capacity and may also dislodged itself and get injested into the engine.....worst case senario, you will damaged your cylinder block. Plastic flap will not do that, it will simply just burnt it self out.

Previously when we were on Euro 1, the sludge deposits is so evident and had cause lots of problems. Now with the Euro2 diesel, its much much better and if you use the correct brand of diesel, your black soot emission is almost invisible :4: ....

So what's the correct brand of diesel mr VP? What do you use on your own car in other words :D

Thanks bro zul, got your pm. Anyway, AB tun razak recommended to replace certain improved parts in the manifold.

In the service form, its stated something about checking manifold flap... Black smoke from exhaust....

Mine is a 2009 model and warranty ends 2012. So, the service advisor recommended to replace the "faulty" parts before it becomes a real problem.

You have a 2009 model bought from AB? Thats a first for me bro? For a diesel of the 2009 model :top:....though Im with the 2004 model, I believe I still hv abt 10 mths left on my manifold warranty. Thats another long story. Will talk abt it in due time :4:... have them tell you what was actually changed? Good lesson learnt for future maintenance reference, especially after the contractual warranty period expires.

:4:.

Thanks! So everyone has their own favorite. The E90 320d guys say Petronas/Caltex. The Captiva people say Exxon. The E60 drivers favor BHP.

I worked for Shell and will avoid Shell diesel any day of the year :D

ok, some updates... they took out the manifold and checked... apparently i was informed that the "flap" thingy only happens on 530D cars. they have also confirmed that the 520D uses metal flap(don't know what it actualy means) and it doesnt have this problem. But they actually did replace another part(preventive) called "ventilation valve". I'm assuming that the ventilation valve is also part of the manifold.

I had 2 other issues and i hope someone can advice is i've been given the correct info.

1. I had complained that my idrive-->lightings doesn't have Daytime Running Lights checkbox. so i had to manuall activate the DRL via light-switch knob. I thought it was a software upgrade issue. The service advice told me the function of DRL was not available cos of my rear view camera. i remove the rear view camera, then the DRL function will be available... anyone have experience in this?

2. at times, gear 1 --> gear 2, i can feel a jerk, i read somewhere that a reprogramming will resolve this. According to them, they had reset the some adaptive gb thingy and also reprogram the gear change ecu to be smoother. hope it will work. going to test it later...
