last sunday maghrib my car sound like motor boat.... with body shaking like crazy for a normally very smooth ride.

dont know what to do and little bit panic.... because there is no error message from idrive .... then i remember Bro moots..... thanks Bro for ur advise.... check by local nearby mechanic that he know for years.... confirm Bro moots thinking ..... thats my Ignition coil are gone.....

so the repair bill as below...


Reset 90
Spare plug 49x6 =294
Fuel injection cleaner 30
Workmanship 180
Ignition coil 180x3 = 540
Valve cover gasket 175
Motronic gasket 125
Diskaun 45

its valve cover gasket failure (leake)



2 out of 6 spark plug hole have oil... minyak sudah naik laaa... causing the coil kaput ......

valve cover have been clean and prepared for assemble

this evening ..... my car mogok again...... i press the push start button.. just heard the strater start to crank ...... then it quiet .......

then... i lock the car.... unlock the car...... use spare key.... only can hear the Fuel pump sound from rear .... no sound from the starter ........

however ....... if i press the push start button many time... Ignition switch is on message apprear on the idrive screen ... i have change the battery to ori bmw batery on 10 dec 2013 .... the ori bmw baterry should last at least 3 to 4 years

I think the original bmw battery (agm type) should last you many more years. In my case, my battery is already 10+ years old.

Maybe there is a problem with the alternator not charging battery properly. Or the car did not go to sleep when you switch it off.

My advise is take out the battery and send it for recharge. If the shop says the battery is dead and cannot be recharged, ask them to connect a 2nd good battery to the charger. Sometimes the charger cannot detect the dead battery due to the low voltage, but a 2nd battery should trick the charger.

ok, so it's not the battery then.

starting problem in a bmw is more difficult to troubleshoot. maybe can start with the simple ones like trying your spare key and/or checking the fuses. it could be grounding issues of the battery/starter. if you have a multimeter, can check if there's sufficient voltage to the starter.

the starter solenoid kaput.. so the stater gear cannot engage to the fly Wheel to crank the engine... thats the reason i cant hear any engine crank sound when the problem happened

the starter gear shaft can be turn by hand only the solenoid cannot engage ... solenoid is the yellowish parts...
