Looking at either a 2002/2003 E39 vs E60 2003/2004. Both with M54 525i. Prices are generally RM50K to RM60K difference between them. Is it worth paying for the E60? I need a bigger car from my current E46. Please share your thoughts.

The E39 is more classically BMW in design. Some prefer this look compared to the radical "Bangle-butt" E60. But this "traditional" BMW look is also why some think of the E39 is an "uncle's car".

The E39 uses proven technology - though nothing cutting edge - and if you're talking about the 2003 CKD AB cars, come fully loaded with equipment. Also, if you're looking specifically at the 2003 models, being an end-of-the-line model, this would normally mean far less engineering/electrical/electronic issues since BMW would have had a full 8 yrs to identify and correct manufacturing/design flaws in the car.

On the other hand, the E60 is a younger car, more dynamic in appearance and uses the latest tech (RFT's, Sat-nav, Voice Control), which should appeal to the younger set.

Both however, are excellent cars and would make a good upgrade from your E46 in terms of size.

I agree with rpmnut, plus it also depends on how much you are willing to pay for the monthly installment..if my financial permits, e60 is my favourite..

The 2003 E39 AB cars, do they have the msport version?

E39 FTW. Looks great, timeless design, and on the contrary, I doubt it's an uncle car when compared to the same generation W210 Mercedes E Class.

AB never officially sold the M-Sport E39 in Malaysia. All the M-Sports you see are recon units from UK/Japan.

Won't argue with you on that point, bro. I own an E39 too and I absolutely love the design. Timeless BMW.

And funny thing is - you can see that with the new F10, BMW is going back to the E39 design language. If you lined up the E39, E60 and F10, you'll see more similarities between the F10 and the E39 than the E60. ;)

Haha, yeah. The E60 is a nice car, but I think the design won't stand the test of time. :4:

E39 is a very handsome car, more so if shod with M-Parallels...

I have a soft spot for E39's with the Type 32 rims (came standard on the 540i's) and high gloss black shadowline trim ;)

Aiya, style 48s? I actually had to google it up 3 times [using different terms] just to view the rims. :4:

Style 172s more cantik la... But I understand the tyres will probably cost a bomb. :4:

Bro,
The price difference between the last batch of E39 and the first batch of E60 is around RM 70-80k. Yes, it all depends on what you are looking for, example.......comfort, NVH, handling, cabin space, style, performance, overall cost of maintenance.....etc.
Drive both and you will know the choice is pretty obvious!

I'm actually leaning towards the E39 rather the E60...cheaper initial cost and maintenance. I'm already very familiar with the running costs of my E46. Would need to hunt one down with M-sports. That would be my choice.

Bro..what sort of extra equipment are there? Don't think there's a 16:9 screen right?

I vote for the E39, but then again I'm biased! I cannot tahan the design of the E60 dashboard as well.

None of the local AB cars came with navigation or the TV screen - these were only fitted on foreign cars.

The official run-out model E39's from AB came with items that were previously optional, such as power operated rear sunshades, side window roller blinds, PDC front & rear etc...

LOL. I'm with you on that, bro! And I never got used to the "eagle eye" look. It's almost like BMW tried too hard with the E60...
