Need more advice from sifu,
1. How to check whether any display pixel issue? From this pics, seems to be ok? Mileage 162k, not sure genuine or not.

If you cant see anything wrong then it is not faulty.

This was my display before I fixed it with a new ribbon cable:

It is exactly as described by the name of the fault - missing pixels.

This was the result of the display fix:

1st photo: Before fix, showing missing pixels

2nd photo: Ribbon cable wrongly aligned

3rd photo: Display fixed - all pixels present.

any sifu can accompany me to view the car again? the car is in ampang.
as usual dealer wont allow to drive to workshop unless confirm buying... another option is to bring technician over..

Test drive this, cant find any faults from layman view... just the electric seat is not working, dealer say probably their workers disconnected the wire when they do touch up...

Need to bring a bmw specialist to help check the car... any sifu can intro? normally what are the charges?

The car definitely not a M-sport car. Front and rear light looks ugly!

The loose part can tight up with cable.

Facelift m-sport my ass..

I think I've seen a few on the net although I imagine they are quite rare. Normally the suede (called alcantara) is only wrapped in the bolsters, the middle bit is normally cloth.

This is from an E39:

Its not to my liking though. Always looked rather messy to me somehow.

yes this is the exact one i saw..

Thanks for the confirmation haywire... coz the idiot salesman from selayang insist, saying m-sport 39 only comes wt this kinda seats, never wt full leather!! :stupid:

Bro,
How to differentiate m-sport? I tried google a few other photos, all look similar... can tell?

Aiyo I thought I've detailed how to differentiate m-sport or not on page 4..provided with a photo of my e39 m-sport summore. Easiest way to tell is from the semi bucket seat and the 3 spoke sport steering wheel.

Not necessarily silver interior trims. Mine is an M-sport and it comes with wood trims.

To look for an M-sport, look for:

1. Black antracite roof lining (as above)
2. Shadowline window trim (black window trim, NOT chrome window trim as in those adverts)
3. Sport seats
4. 3 spoke steering wheel (2 types, old and new)
5. M sport door sill

Bumpers are easily changed so cant be judged from that.

M-sport or not originally the side mirrors are the square type. The oval type is M5 replica mirrors.

This is m-sport

This is not m sport

Look at the seat and the steering. See any difference? (the bucket seats VS the flat seat, round 3 spoke steering wheel VS square 4 spoke steering wheel)

Of course these can be changed as well but it cost a lot so not many people change the seats when they convert to m-sport

One more thing, you might not realise this, the front bit of the seat which sits under your thigh can be extended forward in an m-sport seat, such as below:

P1190771.jpg

(In case you get confused, thats the old type 3 spoke sport steering before 2002 but is still an m-sport steering - upside down though)

Get it yet? :listen:

Bro, thanks for taking the trouble to explain again.. :top:

I mis-understood in the first place... at first... i thought M-Sport = M5 or M3.
So, you mean M-Sport is actually dress-up accessories like those you listed above... and most ppl only do the bumper then call it as M-Sport? Is this correct? Hope I didnt mis-understood again..

Not only dressed up accessories. But the rear diff spec is different in an Msport. Also the suspension & springs are much stiffer/lower in an Msport.

No problemo bro..no need to forgive wan la...:D

If my memory serves me right, the M sport diff has a much closer ratio thus having better acceleration. Any M sport drivers can vouch if this statement is true???

Oh la la! better acceleration, but at what expense? Midrange powah or top end? If i'm not mistaken, there are also original E39 525i M Sport edition too right? If there are, then the 525i version gets similar short ratio differential too?

This is my thoughts on this : for the 530i version, shorter / closer ratio diff will not reduce the torque, hence probably the midrange power is not affected much, and the top end power should also stay as it's a freakin' 3 litre. But for the 525i version, I'm not sure as it's a smaller CC'ed engine, hence lesser torque and top end power compared to the 530i M Sport version.

In all my readings regarding E39 M-sport models all these years (my love for the E39 M-sport have been for a while) I have never come across anyone saying that it had a different differential than the other trim models.

This is taken from BMW Car magazine, June 2006 edition:

The most desirable E39 trim, Sport, meant an aero kit, Sport suspension, Sports seats, Sport wheel, 18-inch alloys, brushed aluminium-look interior trim and Sport kick plates.

One thing is not true with the statement above where the 525i M-sport also normally come with 17-inch Style 72.

Worth a read as there are a lot of info with all the variations of the E39 generation

Download the buying guide here: E39 Buying Guide

Oh, and another thing:

There were also five limited edition models produced, with each one available in a special colour – Avus blue, Aegean blue, Midnight blue, Champagne and Champagne II.

My car is the limited Aegean Blue Edition. Only 150 of petrol and 150 of diesel E39 made :D

http://www.meeknet.co.uk/E38/bmw_e38_buying_guide.htm

This link shows that there's difference in the torque converter & differential for non-Msport vs. Msport models.

Quoted from the site: "The true Sports models have two items that define the marque, a high stall-speed torque-converter and a lower-ratio differential, the correct option number for this is S204A."

Or you can carry out the OBC test:

Use OBC hidden function 8 to display KPH; set cruise to 123KPH on a level road
(the speedo will show 80MPH/128KPH as it over-reads by 4%)

Use OBC hidden function 7/2 to show RPM

A non-Sport model will show 2305 - 2310 RPM
A Sport model will show 2475 - 2480 RPM

Alternatively, without using any hidden functions:

Set the cruise so that the speedometer shows exactly 80MPH when in 5th gear. The instruments will look like this:

NON-M SPORT

M SPORT
