the car stuck on bad jam last friday. reached home and heard hissing sound from the engine bay. popup the bonet, to my surprise, saw water vapor coming from the thermostat housing. found out tht the bleeder screw on the housing has broken. i think its due to age and also overtightening tht cause minor crack. checked the temp, its still seating in the middle, ok slight relief.. the next day checked the coolant level, guess bout good 30-40% of it lost. so went to bavoto to sought new bleeder screw. bought 2 for the price of rm10/pcsto bleed the system, openup both 2 bleeder screws ( one at thermostat housing, the other one at the radiator refill cap. ) pouring the coolant/water slowly till no more bubble/only water comingout from the thermost hole. screw the bleerderscrew not too tight. else u risk broken it. then continue to fill the radiator till no more bubble coming out from the hole (rad side). fill till max. start engine and monitor. go for test drive and monitor. let it idle for few more minutes and monitor. if everything normal u have done good job. let the engine cool overnite, next day check the top rad hose, it should not be pressurized. if its hard, then bad news for u. topup the rad as necessary.

Moots, good write up.

But just wanna add...

For those with functioning auxiliary water pumps and valves (for heating climate control) i.e not bypassed, should turn the climate control on with the following settings for proper bleeding of radiator.

1) Set temp of both driver's and passenger's to HIGH (32 C)
2) Set fan speed to 1 or 2 level.

This is to ensure that the coolant is circulating through out the cooling system completely....leaving no air pockets or bubbles in between.

Continue bleeding like how skinhead have explained above.
