Hi all, My sister has a 1997 E36. since last week, the car cannot rev over 3000RPM. Idling is normal. When flooring the pedal, it will hit 4000RPM max and then drop to 3000RPM. Bila bawak jalan slow and gear change also lembab. What can be causing this problems? Any pointers much appreciated.Hamka

check the throttle cable at the throttle body. The clip could be broken or the cable could be loose.

Got Vanos or not eh? Vanos sensor kaput if not mistaken also will cause similar result.

Go workshop run a diagnostic test to get fault code.. there should be fault code.

I believe the guys here has given some pointers. But before we give better advise, you can share with us which model is your sister's E36, 318, 325i or 328i.

If it's a 318i, check the AFM. Else, plug in computer and check for fault codes. Also check for fuel preasure and etc. Many reasons for such symptoms. Best if you can bring to mech to iron it out.

For 325i and 328i, same as 318i except no AFM to check.

Stuffef up Exhaust

Hi guys,
Finally solved the problem... The exhaust was completely stuffed up with pieces of catalytic converter!!! No wonder the car can't rev up at all!
Now another problem came up. The car got very slow pickup. The mechanic says that the due to faulty ABS, the car cannot accelerate for safety reasons. Anyone got the same problem.
