ciklee,

After replacement of mechatronics solenoids, one need to reset the values of all solenoids to 0. Go for a test drive and reset again if necessary.

I have had the same problem with my 545, I have had the solenoids replaced and this has fixed all the problems. M-Scope in Batu Caves has all the specialist tools for this and can plug into the gearbox to retrieve fault codes that do not show up on the normal scan tools. They are the only ones who have this in the region.

I actually went to Mscope and they were the ones who recommended changing the solenoids (i.e. shop B). They did plug in the transmission fault code reader but no errors were found. I guess I just have to bite the bullet and replace the solenoids to know for sure whether it would solve my problem or not.

Today I noticed two more strange problems. I usually listen to hotfm but when i start the car this morning, the radio automatically switched to era.fm. Another problem was the date shown in idrive is one day late i.e. 2nd july 2013. It's getting weirder each passing day, sigh.

I also feel all the issues I'm facing are somehow related and the common denominator is the electrical system. I did check my battery a few days ago and the reading was about 700 (i forgot what is the unit). The battery tester said my battery would clock 880 if it were brand new fresh from factory, so a reading of 700 should be quite good.

I also check the ground connection from negative terminal of the battery to car chassis and everything checks out ok. Are there any other ground points on the car that I should check for loose or dirty connection? One more thing, does anyone know if there some sort of power/voltage management circuitry or regulator in the car? I plan to have these checked as well to eliminate electrical related causes.

The valvebody of the ZF6HP19 auto transmission is known as Mechatronics. If your mechanic tell you that they are going to service the mechatronics unit, they just telling you a lie as no workshops in Malaysia has the capabilities and special tools to open and service the said unit.

amen to that!! it is really frustrating when we know better than the techies and they are trying to pull a fast one.

Hi ciklee, any news on your predicament ? hopefully it's all been resolved.

Not yet, still saving up to have the solenoids replaced. That's the priority. For now, i just hv to live with the rest of the annoying problems. A couple more problems have came up since my last posting though, sigh.

Sent my car to have the software updated last few weeks. Found out the car never got any updates since it left the factory on 06/2004. The technician advised me against doing the update since his tools is meant for newer bmws. He scared it might brick the car, too much risk. So end up not doing the updates. Im still looking to update the software because i think it might solve some of the problems im having. I may end up doing it myself. Been reading up alot on bmwcoding to build my knowledge.

"there's a possibility of brick the car ".. like an iphone ? demn... now i scare also to get E60... sorry to hear that bro... lets TT soon. on me. i appreciate to know more about the car before taking the plunge.

Haha it's really not as bad as it sounds. Generally, when attempting to do a firmware/software updates on any microprocessor/controller based systems i.e. handphone, pc, microwave, etc, there's always a chance of bricking especially if the process is interrupted. Most bricking can actually be recovered. You just need to make sure u dont fry the chip/hardware.

If you like the e60 model, i suggest you get the lci model since its software has been revised. Mine is on older version and it doesn't help that the car hasn't been updated since.

My 525 M sport do hv rpm meter swing studying idle and date running out. Need to reconfigure the date sometimes. Even there is an error msg of active steering failed and automatic reset. Sent my car to diagnosis and no error. But lastly the said is the battery unit not good. After replaced new batt, my problems resolved.

My car do have gearbox problem when going up hill. Is like the gear change slip. I checked with the workshop and they told me to use untill the problem get serious then only come back for replacement. Is a common problem of bmw e60.

So hv u get yours repaired?

I haven't fixed my gearbox yet, still saving up. Now wife wants to go holiday in HK before giving birth feb/mar next year, so I guess now gearbox has got to wait maybe even after delivery :dontknow:

I did have my battery checked using some sort of battery-o-meter and it was giving an okay reading. I do not know how old is the battery. Checked all service records provided by previous owner(s) but couldn't find any receipt stating battery change. It could still be the original one from factory. Is there a way to check how old is the battery? Do batteries have some kind of date code printed on them like tires do?

Maybe a battery change wouldn't hurt. If it doesn't solve the problem, at least I know of old is the new one :p Btw, how much did it cost you to change the battery? Did you get the AGM-type or normal lead acid ones? Mind sharing the brand and rating of the battery you got? Did you register or code the new battery?

harry 7,

Please share the PKL motorsport contact no. with me... PM also can

Harry,

For the benefit of all members, I believe it would be appropriate to list out the total cost (including parts from BA) for the works performed on your car by PKL Motorsports.
