Thanks, Kevster30 - what a remarkable chronicle of a wish-list!! :D

1. Locate a good condition car. Preferably a coupe with nice body panels with form fitting alingment. Interior should be sound. Done!!

Good job bro...on to the next step then..... :D

2. Strip it down to the shell and cart it over to a reutable panter and sort out that meticulous paint-job that you have always dreamt about. Olivine please .....

PM me if interested in a killer painter......hehehehe :nyehehe:

4. Suspension: Bilstein sport kit, Ireland Engineering sways and struts. These I CANNOT live without. How much you reckon these will cost??

This you have to PM Alvin for details.....or we can meet up as I have this set-up on my current ride.... :nyehehe:

6. LSD: beg, borrow, steal.......without one, this entire exercise would be futile. Where can I beg for one, and what does this do??

LSD=Limited Slip Differential, this baby will give you 50% more traction around corners....seeing as you oledi have a 2.7, youb need to lay down the power effectively and evenly or else the infamous E30 oversteer will be haunting you......... :nyehehe:

8. Wheels: Beg, borrow, steal a set of BBS 2-piece basketweaves 16" I'm running 15" and Chris Cab had a 17" set for sale ..... but 16"?? I agree 16" looks great on the e30.

Try not to exceed 16" as it will completely mess up the dynamics on the E30 as the suspension geometry was never enginnered to handle wheels larger than 16"

9.Bodykit? I'll leave it stock this time round ...... We're on the same page!!

A well sorted, standard looking E30 can be as sexy as a kitted one.... :yes!:

10. Interior: Black Leather please ........ errr ..... please sir, may I have Dakota leather??

Bro, anything to your fancy.....it's all about the moolahs man....... :nyehehe:

another techchie you shud try and get info is from Calvin Tan , old school M20 freak like myself...........but the dark side is strong, and i cannot resist the temptation.......

but, but, but u may end up buying his M3 instead.......

Kevster's recipe for a well sorted E30.

1. Locate a good condition car. Preferably a coupe with nice body panels with form fitting alingment. Interior should be sound.

2. Strip it down to the shell and cart it over to a reutable panter and sort out that meticulous paint-job that you have always dreamt about.

3. Whilst the shell is at the painter's, shop for a nice M50 engine, 2.5 without the VANOS please.....Give it a head job, bluprint the sucker and look for a performance clutch and flywheel. Nice headers are a must! The rest of the exhaust can remain stock....

4. Suspension: Bilstein sport kit, Ireland Engineering sways and struts. These I CANNOT live without.

5. Brakes: Ireland Engineering makes a nice big brake kit or else, the ATE powerdisc with some premuim JURID pads would do.

6. LSD: beg, borrow, steal.......without one, this entire exercise would be futile.

7. Get the car back from the painter's and assemble with utmost TLC, we don't wanna scuff the new paint right?

8. Wheels: Beg, borrow, steal a set of BBS 2-piece basketweaves 16"

9.Bodykit? I'll leave it stock this time round......

10. Interior: Black Leather please........

Having gone through one E30, the next one would look stock....a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I know that there are many more mods that can be added to this recipe, but this would suffice for me as it would be relatively maintainence free and would not attract the wrong kinda attention on the road.......
haha Kev..serious salivating time reading yr todo list..but seriously ..why a non-vanos unit? thought that the m50 vanos are more efficient? pls enlighten me ..master.. :D :p

eT5,

For a very simple reason, less maitainence and one less thing to worry about......KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Vanos units are more efficient in power delivery, not in maintainence.....go ask any E36 owner.....ekekekeke

Ayoyo Sifu..you have removed great burden ... now can look for cheaper E34 non vanos..with yr blessings...muahahaha.. :p :D

IMHO, the Vanos unit feels smoother and tourqier in the low revs but the punch is the same btwn the two. It could just be me.......

Bro, sumbat some performance cams and headers in and it WILL outrun the blardy Vanos unit lar....

depends on the modification path one wants to take with the M50

either options are good tuning base for more power to come

vanos or non vanos are individual preference, its up to you how you wanna do up your car - track base or road base, either will have potential

with vanos there is an extra 6kg for the unit

with everything else, there need to be a balance......

To all my learned Friends .....

I feel almost ashamed to say this, and most certainly sad, but I am slowly coming to a decision where I will sell my e30 to someone who will want to embark on a magical journey of restoration .....

I am struggling with finding the time to go through the whole process and besides, I am faced with the reality that even if I do restore it, I may never use it anyway. I am hoping that I can find someone who can love it more than me. :(

It has been a remarkable few months of reminiscing for me, and I am not even sure whether I am now crying out for someone to stop me from doing this ..... you know, like someone who is standing on the edge of the roof but calls a friend instead??? He may not really wanna jump .....

For all you seefu's who have unselfishly guided me - Alvin, Elwine30, Fabian, Kevster30 and Teejay - thank you so very much for your time.

journey has come to an end...? or beginning of a new journey.....?
Haha!! :D Teejay my cyber friend - I had struggled with the decision but then reality struck ..... I figured, if I spent any more money on it and left it unused anyway, it would deteriorate again. Well, life moves on, huh?? :)
