M50 - 24 valve

U have a good base M50 - pushing it to 2.5 will be the best choice. There are still tons of parts available.

Bro 535i,

What u mean by this ... explain please. And do u have any idea on the cost estimation?

M50 is a good base to start becoz there's tons of parts for it. from NA to supercharged to turbo.

all depends on your budget. from there u can decide if u want to start the never ending journey to bankruptcy. :D

bro ramsing is right, car modding is the journey to bankruptcy......and it only starts with a thought.......:burnout:

Stroking essentially involves increasing the internal capacity of ur engine or in other words increasing the size of ur combustion chamber.a stroker kit normally consists of replacement pistons, conrods and a crankshaft.the bigger pistons increases ur bore and the conrods and crankshaft increases ur stroke. So the process will involve 'opening up' the bowels of the engine, which means it is time consuming and labour intensive..the advantage of all this is that if the job is properly done,u'll end up with an engine that is not only more torquey and powerful, but it'll be as good as new too.mind u,it won't be as cheap as bolting on pod filters and exhaust systems la..but stroking will be a more worthwhile mod cuz u'll be able to feel a large difference in performance.

All said and done tho,i still think forced induction is still the best mod u can do to boost power and torque.turbo or supercharging, that's what i'd do.

i ve talked to a mechanic few days back and he suggested that i changed the cylinder block from 2.0 to 2.5 ltr. but we talked in a hurry so i didnt have the time to ask for details. so im really appreciate any info. does the process called stroking? or stroking is rebore the existing cylinder to 2.5 size? what are the parts involve if i change the cylinder block to 2.5.? pistons, con rod, crankshaft.... what about the head, cams, ecu? what about tuning? is there any down side of this process.?

i feel like all sifus are tired of this thread, :motz: (banyak tanya la budak ni). :D

but i really need your opinions. please help.. help.. help...

hi antiquer,
it has been months since you wrote in this thread. what happened during this period? appreciate the update since i just got myself this e34 and thinking the same as you. ie best way to boost power.

I know this is off topic guys, but go for 2JZ swap from Toyota Aristo guys... you won't regret it. Feels like raw V8, smooth power delivery through the rev range. 1st turbo starts spooling at 1500 rpm and 2nd turbo joins the party just before 4k rpm.

i know ijz, 2jz will give u more power than standard engine. more powerful, more economic. but deep in my heart i ll go with bmw engine. i dont know why. may be i like to keep things the way they are. i feel satisfied with the original engine even its a bit underpower. its not that i satisfied with the power, but the FEEL i have when popping the hood and see 'BMW Power' word on the engine.

maybe it's the passion i have for BMW

:)

I've been following your thread very closely and reading all replies as well....your needs match mine. I have a car with lesser power than yours!! (auto)..M50b20, 520i E34. Kept classic, but I am seriously thinking of upgrading to 2.5 power. No itnerest in the 1,2Jz as I really don't want to see the "toyota" word n stuff under my hood. 530, and above is out of the question as tax is ridiculous.

We are lucky we have the M50 engine, its a lot more versatile in the market, but exactly what is most cost effective+satisfying is the challenge here...any guys here who specialise in this near Subang/Sunway? I'd like to pay a visit and you can take a look at my car.

Hammer.

Hammer. U can always tape over the Toyota and Yamaha words.

Yes I could...but can't tape over the lack of 'authenticity' mate. :top: I'd pay an extra 1K just to have it produced from Germany/Auto Bavaria with equal performance as the JZ version.

Close one eye ok one... :top:

Actually I checked on the equivalent BMW power plant to the 1JZ. The 1 JZ is similar in power output to the older 4.0 liter V8's and the newer 335/535 etc. Bang for ur buck but most definitely inauthentic.

one of the cost-effective way is stroker kit. with our m50 my mech said ucan rebore up to 3.0l or 3.5l. its cheaper than changing the whole engine, and of cos when its cheaper there are always downsides. u wont get the same amount of hp as changing the whole engine. n if u push the cylinder to 3.0 and above maybe the lifetime is shortened ( the engine la, not u). n of cos there r other options to consider. ask around before making any move.

cheers

right.. pay a few K more and get german authenticity.. right... u know, to replace a bmw gearbox ATF = rm 500-700. To replace a toyota auto oil = 200-300 + filter. I'm down to my 2nd gearbox.. and now got abit of sound.. 1 gearbox swap = 3-4k+ if u're lucky..if not 5-6k... toyota - 1-2k.. want authenticity? look at thy wallet first.. if not, in times like these.. settle for fakes that can smoke authenticity cars ... Why? i've been left smelling smokes by a 1jz e34 and until today, i still hold a grudge... maintaining a 'more economic' car is really quite practical in tough times like this... it's up to each individual i guess...

anyhow to the fucker with 1jz who 'pancing' me.. try my Orange

Need help on the 1jz who 'pancing' u ... ?
We send Lamsing WEP first laaa

There in lies the difference between us mate. I wouldn't use an E34 to try and smoke other cars, its a 5 series for crying out loud. Good to look at, one of the toughest and macho-est cars out there, even now.....but it ain't for racing. I have fun with my car once in a while, on the highways it can still pack a punch to many new cars today....but from standstill I've got smoked by PROTON! But do I care much?....no...because I'm driving one of the best looking cars out there by BMW.

If you wan to race...get the SKyline...Subaru....Evo....then you're in that ballgame. Why waste money souping up a classic E34 with Toyota parts, etc?? No thanks.
