I was searching around in the forum but only few mention about NGV.Many have read from the newspaper and internet that our next best source of enviroment friendly fuel will be NGV. Not forgetting its much cheaper then Shell V-Power.I hope all who have experience with NGV UDM or other Car please share your experience in this thread..UDM are powerful also drink very fast on petrol especially the MPowered engine.. Hope some will share the following,Q1.Fuel Saving $$$ culculation compare to petrol in the first year of installation base on 300km per week or 14400km per year in urban/city drive.Q2Where to install and how much? What are the installation complications?Q3Where are the NGV Stations and future plan for new stations? Thanks

NGV made the engine runs hotter - not so good for engine health. and it gives less power output...

There's always the turbo diesel BMWs if you want a 'greener' alternative. However, our local diesel is too crappy unlike the euro diesel.

Get a Smart for daily use and BMW for weekend drive.. ;)

Fabian Yee..

Why cant there a good conversion to control the extra heat from NGV? Diesel will run out as soon as Petrol runs out and as what you said our diesel are too dirty for the new engine.

NGV is still the way to go... UDM for weekend use is a waste la..

You are right fabian.

It will also occupy considerable amount of boot space. Long queue at the station. You gotta "compete" with the taxis at the petrol station. Not all Petronas carry NGV. For a 2.5 litre or bigger engine you can help save fuel cost and the total operating cost by utilising the NPE instead of the federal highway. Kenapa? Tak percaya aa..?

I saw one Merc W211 did a NGV conversion demo at the recent KLIMS. After looking at it, I started having second thoughts. What will happen to the resale value?

You gonna see a Smart Forfour at MMZ this Friday.:D

There's no way I'm retrofitting an NGV system in my car. The jury's still out wrt compatibility with engine management system. Like funfer said, the solution is not elegant and then there's the risk of having a tank of combustible gas riding in your trunk. Besides it looks kinda lame to be driving a BMW and then cutting pennies on fuel.

I'm with Fabian, turbodiesels' the way to go! The new Hydrogen concept looks interesting. Besides, there's no such thing as global warming

Reason why I post this topic of NGV..

1. Global Warming is serious and should not be ignore. Sad as Some still !
2. More UDM are within the reach of average income earner now ..ie E39 at RM80K price of Honda City, VIOS, Hundai...
3. Additional mile earn from each ringgit will give us more freedom to drive.

the infrastructure is not there yet for more malaysians to consider the NGV. just look at the lines of taxi waiting to refuel their NGV.

another alternative is biofuel but I don't see that picking up over here too anytime soon. sigh..

eh..?? I tot BMW developed hydrogen gas powered engine to comply with the euro 4.

geoffreylee,

thats why we have OBD 1 and 2. to comply with the emmision control. I might be wrong here.

As for good mileage car...get a Smartcar FourTwo.

I think a proactive policy on CO2 (and other particulates) emissions is more relevant to global warming. Club members can lead the example by ensuring that their cars are well maintained and tuned right and that all the emissions equipment is in check (e.g. catalytic converters etc.)

2. More UDM are within the reach of average income earner now ..ie E39 at RM80K price of Honda City, VIOS, Hundai...

Point 1 is related; to some the allure of the roundel is such that they often jump into buying ill maintained cars and skimp on follow up maintenance. As a result emissions/fuel efficiency are not kept in check. Again, I think this is more relevant to global warming than switching out to NG.

3. Additional mile earn from each ringgit will give us more freedom to drive.

Retrofitting NG system is too compromised and will alter the driving characteristic too much, that you're better off trading your mature BMW to a newer and greener car for heavy commuting.

To save petrol dun drive BMW. It is not engineered for but purely ultimate driving machine.

The new Camry 2.4 have so much more power compared to E39 at 525i (based on price range) Furthermore it fuel demand is just 70% of a 525i.

In the term of comfort and luxury, it is not far behind but should say almost at par..

Good answer, as I have driven a 318i E46 2001 model (got it on loan) yesterday...

Here goes;
From NIKKO Hotel to KL Sentral
from KL Sentral to KLIA
from KLIA to IKANO Leisure Mall
then to Sri Petaling

on the meter it say 11l/100km and half tank is gone.... I am sure most you might know how much a 3 series half tank will cost you.

Are you more concerned with emissions or fuel economy?

Your account is subjective and vague. There are many factors affecting the consumption readout on the OBC including time spent stationary, sitting in traffic.

I think most folks would agree concerns about fuel economy/range should've been considered before writing out that purchase cheque. To retrofit a half-baked and unproven NGV solution to your UDM with the hopes of saving some ringgits at the cost of reduced performance and increased strain on the powertrain, is kind of lame in my books. What's the point? It's like proposing to put a 4 cylinder diesel engine in the bay of a Lamborghini Murcielago to make it cheaper to run....

I have seen photos on internet where the NGV tank exploded... One of the photos I saw in the net show the whole rear was torn apart from the blast, the tank split open. and you don't want the see the poor guy's photo, it ain't pretty.

wonder if there's actually any incidents at all in Malaysia. Don't think it'll be reported even if there is. But haven't heard of any cases so far.

If all Petronas's station have NGV and BMW and Merc will factory install NGV and tune the engine to NGV..

Thats my dream la

bmw and ngv in the same sentence?? dat is an oxymoron!!!
wanna save the world and be fuel efficient??

try magic carpets! hee hee!!
