All cars are the same..so is all makes.. each manufacturer has their relibility problems..

problems rise when each manufacturer 'rushes' to push a new model out without much R&D and to the parts they use, everytime the new model comes out, new technology is used, hence multiple relibility problems, D&C, Hondas, all has their own recall issues..

so put it right, newer cars tend to breakdown faster than older cars, let's see for one example, the transfer coolant pipe for the m50 engines, they used thermoplastic rather than alloy..
No idea why ? screwed up trust arm bush for the lower arm for the e46s..

so what cars you buy these days, you will face the relibility issues.

my opinion..

So does this mean that e36 more reliable than e46? My e46 had been going for 4 month without any problem (touch wood), thinking of getting another e36 but u guys r really not encouraging that..................

Nowadays, the so called reliability issues that most of us are facing is actually environmental issues. BMW must make sure that at least 90% of the parts is recycleable and environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, this action sacrifices the quality of the "solid feel" of certain materials. The newer models of BMW although they are technologically advanced, the build quality is somehow disappointing. A visit to a BMW plant showed that the R & D does not only confined to the cars but extended to waste management. This is the standard that BMW must maintain. Even the water that flows out of the factory is drinkable (same goes to Mercedes plant).

Am sure the lady driver stranded on the road in her e46 will be happy to know that.

can't do shit or not bothered to do shit?

put it this way, they will just fill in a form to inform BMW of the problem, then leave it as that, you honestly think they will do follow-up with BMW for you? They have better things to do, like try to sell new cars to unsuspected customers which think that their new buys will serve them well.

some motors are just better that others.. ask anyone in the performance business, some are just better that others no matter all the attention to detail you give it.
cars are the same, some ppl lucky to get better cars than others. some say it's where your car is made? mine's(e46) south african and got no probs. isi minyak jalan. other ppl major issues.. just luck i guess.

E36 was better build, more BMW feel. E46 just look good but very fragile, driving pleasure.... E36 anytime.

cheers

I unearthed an old issue of CAR magazine (UK) from the early '90s. There's an article in that issue by its editor Gavin Green about the poor build quality of the E36.
