Anyone got their F30 LCI yet?

Got mine on 21 Jan 2016 - from Quill. F30 LCI Sport model.

Didn't want to go for the M Sport edition.

I used to drive an E90 LCI M Sport Model, 2011 car, had staggered wheels - 225 in front and 255 at the back. Can't rotate the tyres in this config and the pair of 255s RFTs cost a bomb!

So far I am happy with the car, a lot more smoother and it is very quiet compared to my E90. Suspension is softer and the wheel is higher - F30 has all 225/55/R17 instead of my previous 225/45/R17.

Overall, lots of nice features compared to my old car and it is a SMARTER car :

1. SOS button - my favorite - the car automatically calls the emergency line for you if it detects a crash. You can also activate it in case of car jacking.
2. Intelligent brake lights - if you hit the brakes hard, the read brake lights will light up and start flashing, just like those of F1 cars, pretty cool.
3. Air intake of air conditioner - it has 2 modes now A and M. For A, it will stay open and automatically closes if it detects outside pollutants!
4. Nice dashboard - which changes color - all amber at night, white and amber during the day. I like it!
5. LED headlights - love the color and shape and the range is superb.
6. LED interior lights too and you can control the color - the old usual amber lights or white LED lights
7. Great engine ! The 2.0L turbo really kicks ass, compared to my old sluggish E90, after all it has close to 30 more horses! Old has 150bhp, new is 184bhp. Not to mention the torque - big improvement.
8. Three modes of setting - Sport, Comfort, Sport+ , these setting changes the handling, transmission and steering feel. Have yet to try all of them, it's going to be fun!
9. Sports meters - with torque and kwh meters on the iDrive screen!
10. Comfort access is great, no need to look for the key fob!
11. BMW Connected drive - I can check the status and location of my car on my iPhone! I can lock the car with the phone too.
12. Best part - 5 year UNLIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY & SERVICE, compared to the old 100K km BSRI! Worry free driving !

Have been testing it on the highway around KL, MEX in particular. Handles beautifully.

Can't go beyond 160kph until I complete the first 1000kms though, trying hard to hold back the horses. Yes, the BMW car manual does explicit say that you NEED to run in the car and no speeding beyond 160kph or 4500 rpms.

Two thing though :

1. Trying to get use to the auto on/off engine but I don't quite like it as yet.
2. Smaller iDrive screen - 6.5 in compare to my previous 8.5 inch.

Overall, a fun car and my wife loves it too. She didn't like my E90 because of the stiff suspension.

Here's how the screen looks like on iPhone :

The car has an inbuilt SIM card too - that is for the BMW service line and at a press of a button, the onboard system will send all the car configuration and telemetry data to the server and it can be accessed by the call center agent, in cases of break down and emergencies.

The system DOES NOT used your phone to make the call. It has its own phone and you can talk to the call center service agent even though your phone is not on or it is not with you. That's cool!

some freebies thrown in
Ni Mick, where did you get the M Sport front grille colour done and how much? I just took delivery of my 330i Msport last Saturday.

Just got my car F30 320i LCI yesterday. Still exploring the features of the car and thanks Orion for the summary of the F30 LCI. Also try it at MEX yesterday under heavy downpour and handling is not too bad as i'm ditching my Impreza STI version 10 for this.

you mean the hands free opening function? mine is not very sensitive to my foot........

The new LCI does have the automatic boot opening feature like the 5 series.

I initially had trouble using it and it was not consistent, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

Here's the trick :

1. You need to stand about an arm's length away from the boot, directly facing the BMW badge on the boot lid.
2. Lift your leg and tap the bottom of the boot. Chances are, you shin will touch the bottom of the bumper. Just tap, don't kick the boot!
3. If the pressure and angle is within range, the rear brake lights will flash TWICE and voila! the boot opens up nicely.

You got to try it a few times before you get used to it.

I tried it many times and also had to bend down to see the bottom of the bumper - and the 2 sensors are clearly visible, then try again.

From what I know, the LCI 320i model has its own mobile SIM card in the car itself, it is built into the engine compartment somewhere and you cannot easily remove it.

That SIM must be there for this iPhone remote function to work and you HAVE TO REGISTER you car with BMW website along with your car engine chassis number.

But I am not sure whether the pre-LCI models have the SIM card or not.

Went to Penang from KL and back during Chinese New Year.

The car has clocked more than 1600 kms, so I can officially floor the accelerator and go beyond 160km/h.

Handles beautifully, it feels better than my old E90 M Sport, in terms of ride comfort, torque/acceleration.

Still not used to the auto on/off ...... yes it does saves petrol but it almost always shudders when it restarts. I'ts just me I guess ..... now it turn it off every time I start the car.

But the horn has a bit of a delay - when I press the horn there is a split second delay before the sound comes on. Weird.

Dust from brake pads is quite bad though, I do 350-400 kms a week. I start the week with shiny new and clean rims, by the third day, it is very dark/black already.

Some how my impression is that the brake dust is worse than E90. Now I am not a speed demon and brake hard all the time, if fact my driving style is to let the car coast to a gentle stop rather than brake hard all the time.

So far no technical issues whatsoever. Engine oil level is fine.

Overall a fun car to have, definitely miles better than my old 2012 E90 LCI.

If I'm not mistaken the ASS function can be turn on and off whenever you want through the button that is just above the engine star button.

Can't confirm it coz I'm still waiting for car delivery But this is what I've seen in many video reviews

Yes it can be turned off using that button but i like the ASS function so I never really bothered to press that switch.

I find it weird that BMW couldn't make the ASS more quite. The japanese hybrids just 'burps' when the ASS is active (serious). When ASS was 1st introduced for BMW, i read in the review that the the starting sound is so jarring. Anyways, i just turn mine off all the time.

Haha, you are right that it's very mild with hybrid coz the engine cranking is done by the electric motor, start up is instantly with a turn of the key.

Just traded my 4yr old CRZ for a F30

Guys, any1 survey b4 for the price of replacing brake pads?

And is there really a need to replace the rotors/disc brake?

Agree with the brake dust!!! I wash my car once a week and my silver colored rims look like it has been sprayed to dark grey color... Lol

Btw, any idea about the LCI having adjustable suspension? Bcoz mine shows drivetrain and chassis when I enter to the settings menu when u press sports mode...

I was told that the brake pads costs RM600-700 per pair.

If my old E90 is any indication, I didnt have to replace the brake pads well after 50,000kms. But then it really depends on your driving style.

Yes, it generates a HUGE amount of brake dust. I have to really wash and clear the rims and insides!
