Thanks for your response AB....

Lets make things clear...

1. Comm has made a decision...fine. Its a decision.
2. I'm not asking the Comm to reverse it.
3. My question is why/ the rationale for the decision... this decision will open the floodgates to accusations of unfairness on basis of religion, race, taste etc (like the examples i gave). Based on the Comm's decision, further example..If one does not eat certain dishes, should one be made to pay for them?
4. When the Comm makes these decisions, and create segregations, the consequences are far reaching...and we allow segregation in this Club, and I am sure this will ail this Club (as it does this country presently).
5. Pursuant to the above rationale, If this Comm sees fit to re examine its decision, great....

I've said my piece, so I await the Comm's explanation on "why create this segregation?". (as made clear exhaustively, in my 1st post)

First and foremost, it wasn't the MCs decision on the beer chip-in program. Its all mine because I notice beer is not listed in last year's expenses. Further check and found out droid and johnj paid for it. I can choose to keep quiet, meaning club pays for the beer where many don't consume alcohol, even DigitalPunk for that matter. Or I can approach Johnj or Droid to continue sponsor, or just try my luck and get drinkers to chip-in.

Perhaps the remark I made was wrong because I use the word "unfair", which at that point of time, that's my only thought. Not knowing its a sponsor with ads put up in the AD. My mistake for not contacting the senior to ask why they pay for the beer. I thought no one wants to pay, that why they pay.

The beer chip-in program continue whether Droid or JohnJ is sponsoring to get ad space in exchange.

My apology to those whom's feeling was disturbed by my "unfair" statement.

Hope I answered your question.

AB

Thank you for your quick and transparent response AB...

So may I conclude that:

1. This is solely the decision of you AB, not a collective decision of the Comm;
2. There has been no confirmation/condonation of this decision by the Comm and/or AD sub committee;
3. No prior arrangements have been made on the beers/booze;
4. No negotiations on the beers/booze have been made with the Hoteliers prior to confirming the venue;
5. In planning this event, No request had been made to the past donors of the beers (John J and Droid).
6. The Club has insufficient funds to cover this particular expense.

If the above is correct, I will not have any further questions nor seek further clarification from you or the Comm... (except maybe during AGM la....)

Thanking you again, which is appreciated.

Dear Blackrobe,

I hope you find the reply from our fellow Astroboy helpful so far.

Sorry that I have to take your time a bit on question not really related to the AD but while reading the progress of this thread so far, I have some questions for you as it makes me wonder and confused (maybe my English is not that good so I might understand wrongly);

1. I am quite puzzled as to why you think the MC is like the ruling gov in Malaysia?
2. From the way I understand it, once the MC are elected into office, do they automatically owe the OM's a living?
3. Are the MC paid in this case pursuant to the question no. 2?
4. Why it is viewed as segregation when it could be interpreted as a call of goodwill gesture to chip in on the beer corkage charges?

The question is just for my personal curiosity and has nothing to do with the MC. Thank you in advance.

1. I am quite puzzled as to why you think the CM is like the ruling party in Malaysia?

I had wished t have laid this to rest at this time, but since I was asked.....

1. I am quite puzzled as to why you think the CM is like the ruling party in Malaysia?

That answer is in my first post...on introducing segregation to this Club, when there never was.

2. From the way I understand it, once the CM are elected into office, do they automatically owe the OM's a living?

The Comm as elected members owe a duty as being responsible for the proper management of this Club to paying members of this Club. There is no issue of owing a living, as you put it.

3. Are the CM paid in this case pursuant to the question no. 2?

Redundant question in view of my answer to #2.

4. Why it is viewed as segregation when it could be interpreted as a call of goodwill gesture to chip in on the beer corkage charges?

Refer to my earlier post where a number of examples have been given.

In addition to this I will like to ask:

1. Why did AB make this decision unilaterally?
2. Why did AB make the assumptions he admittedly did?
3. How is this issue going to be handled, bearing in mind that this Club is fully responsible (constitutionally and legally) for all the monies it collects and handles, where when these monies will be collected, used, and excess credited to the Club's accounts, which decision to do so has admittedly been the sole decision of a singular Comm member and not the Committee?

Either relevant party may contribute in response.

Just my curiousity as an OM....

Blackie...

AB had good intentions but the problem is you people always like to find fault for whatever reason I also dunnolah....Our dear Treasurer being the treasurer is very kiamsap, so he try not to touch club money loh, especially for the case of the beer, as we have muslim brethrens in this club who are not allowed to drink alcohol, so he be nice and make it fair that those who want to drink to contributelah...bcos if use club money is not fair mah for our muslim brothers ...worse still, afterward the JAIS come after him...bcos he use the money which was paid by our muslim brothers to buy alcohol...pity himlah...no get paid some more everyday kena hantam...worse than pros man...at least pros get paid...since so many want to contribute their 2 cents ..I also contributelah...Fair mah like dat....

Thank you Blackrobe for answering my curiosity...

On your question, I can only answer a few on which I have some info on...

In addition to this I will like to ask:

1. Why did AB make this decision unilaterally?

AB took the initiative to call for this chipping in for the beer corkage as he did not want the club to pay for it as being the care taker of the money of the club he has to be accountable to it and spend it diligently. He did ask me on what I think and I agree fundamentally as I do not see it as a segregation but as one point on how to reduce the AD expenses on a particular item which in this case the beer corkage charges which the MC has been trying very hard to get the hotel to waived it but at the end was not possible. The same applies for other items in the AD prerequisites expenses. We look for ways to reduce the expenses by means of sponsor or contribution. Since in this case the beer was already sponsored, that left the corkage charges to be borne and AB suggested that perhaps we could call for some generous contribution from members attending the event. No segregation comes into mind at that point but maybe the way it was put is least to be desired and I believe AB has already apologize on that.

2. Why did AB make the assumptions he admittedly did?

Which assumption? But in any case, an assumption is made when facts is not available but I believe it is due to the way it is put and understood thus causing some misunderstanding. I believe AB has address this by admitting the wrong assumption on the contribution of JohnJ and Beserkroid in the past AD.

The way I see this is an effort by a person in this case AB to call for volunteers to chip in for the corkage charges and to collect on behalf of all the person interested and then paid to the club as part of contribution/ sponsor from some members to offset the charges to be incurred during the AD for the beer corkage. Any excess monies from the contribution could be as a contribution money from the members for the club (with their agreement) or refunded to them. I don't see any issue with that fundamentally unless I am not aware of certain restriction in the club constitution or the Malaysian law. A managing committee is also a member and he or she has the rights to exercise his membership rights to contribute to the club in the way he deemed fit and not in the capacity as the club managing committee.

Hehe... quoting myself.. now I know why Blackrobe make the statement.. Ops.. my bad again. What I'm trying to say is "I suggested", President, VP, Secretary and Committee members who attend our AD meeting all agreed to by suggestion..

I regret to see you make this conclusion where we people (whomsoever WE are) always like to find fault......

I have better things to do then chase after AB's laurels....

AB is the person who has and had on numerouus occassions taken the commendable action of taking the lead on answering queries... unfortunately, the responses from those who made the queries have to be directed at him, since it seems like he is the appointed spokesman for the Comm, apart from those others (earlier referred as bitches) who have nothing better to do than infuriate the situation. So in gist, AB has my respect as a CM (which he already knows its never been personal).

Bro, the highlighted part of your contribution is totally misguided and wrong... there is NO prohibition on the use of Club funds to pay for the corkage of booze, especially from JAIS which has no jurisdiction on a 'Non Muslim' entity, which I hope you are not suggesting that this Club is deemed a Muslim entity!

As you are well aware, the Club has in its past made its contributions towards the celebration of the Club's events whenever financially possible, which had included booze. (This had never been objected to by the majority of members, let alone raised by anyone in all the past AGM's.) So when this new issue is implemented, I had hoped the CM had the farsightedness to see the possible consequences of this precedent setting.

What has never been an issue with the Members is now being made an issue by introducing this issue of 'unfairness'... this is where discrimination and troubles begins....

Holy Cow....another one kah ! ! ! Blackrobe, You're right lah....Things NEVER changed wan....KNN ! ! !

Like your "BITCHING"

Yeeehaaaaan ! ! !

Sunny,

Some people just want to bitch because I believe it is their part of their nature and surprisingly it came from a male!! I can fully understand and tolerate it if the bitching came from the opposite sex but nowadays it is also difficult to diffirentiate the two sexes.

Bottom line here is, if you want to drink beer during annual dinner, then chip in lah...simple as ABC. What is the big fuss man?? Why talk 3 talk 4 and go about using words like segregation, unfairness, possible consequences, precedent ?? Feel it is unfair to chip in, then don't drink and better still don't bother to attend lah for we won't miss such a character. If you are so desirious to drink but cannot afford to chip in, just say so lah and I WILL PAY FOR YOU.

I really like what XXX mentioned earlier....."bcos we have old cocks who always have their 2 cents worth on the running of the club."

Astroboy,

Though I do not consume alcohol and as a small token of appreciation to all my bros in the club, I am contributing RM50 towards the beer cockage fund. Let's all have some good fun and enjoyable Annual dinner.

Oh! one more thing, if any of my postings disturb your thoughts and feelings, best call me to clarify rather then start a thread/posting which may end up in a pop corn session if take a moment too long to answer, which is not healthy for the club and really will "segregate" us up. Only lawyer does that. They only serve u writings and when they see u, it will be in the court. And when the judge step in, only they realise is a big misunderstanding :(

My England not well, so I may write A, thinking I said B and being read as C..:eek:
