Just saw an Alfa Romeo 156 3.2 GTA (M) year 2003 available for sale in current Motor trader. And it's in Red ... slurp slurp  Uncle Ron Lim selling it. Anyone interested?

hehehe... no nid to racun. ive been sold on the GTA for ages. just this small little detail of the financials. :(

was surprised that i didnt see any of u guys at the Auto Italia launch yesterday. quite a good event, very big budget, very stylish. lots of corporate figures and young execs/professionals were invited even if they didnt know about alfas. i think auto italia is squarely targeting the existing BMW market for its customer base. whether it'll work or not remains to be seen.

they revealed the new pricing yesterday and it edges into BMW territory. the new 2L are about 240-260K, and the GTA has hit 350k. sigh... the dream just got even further away.

Apparently (since I've never driven one, and only have read about it), it drives horribly on bad road sufaces- limited suspension travel and all- that should mean it wouldn't be the best choice for our roads, no? Plus the 156 replacement (159?) is out...

Yikes! That kinda of pricing policy just doesn't cut it right! It worked for BMW tho in keeping up with Mercedes but I hate to see other continental makes following suit just to be as 'premium' as the others!

With that kinda pricing the only people buying the new 159 will be hard core Alfasits. Its likely the regular Joe Malaysian will stick to brands like BMW or Merc or even Volvo and Audi. They should have priced it to compete head on with the Accords and Camrys which will see them doing much better IMHO.

fact of the matter is that true car enthusiasts are pragmatic ppl and rarely spend silly amts of money on new cars which they never drive at the limit. and for that reason, most car companies cannot survive on enthusiast business alone.

the ppl willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money for cars which they dont really use are the rich kids, yuppies and young execs/professionals who usually buy based on looks and brand. this is the market that alfa realises they need to tap into, and this space is the stronghold of BMW and merc.

so business wise, they're taking a step in the right direction. but i think in the long run, the long time alfistis will suffer.

Dude,

if any of those "rich kids, yuppies and young execs/professionals" buy an Alfa for BMW/Merc money, they'd be laughed off the golf course/boardroom/office by the other "rich kids, yuppies and young execs/professionals" who bought BMW/Mercs.

Alfas today are just not as good as BMW/Mercs, and those "rich kids, yuppies and young execs/professionals" know it and aren't stupid. In fact, I think the only people who'll buy Alfas these days are highly "superficial" people who base their buying options on looks alone, cos Alfas do look very good. But not much else, unfortunatly.

Sorry, just had to refute Redds' frankly ridiculous statement about how Alfas should be priced at the same level as BMW/Merc!

i think Alfa cars are more than just the 'LOOKS' lar....performance leh.....handling leh.....so much better compare to BMW.
I'm wondering, how exactly would one prove or dis-prove that?

Any suggestions?

there it goes again....
Hehehehe....ok lar bro. I will stop here....no need to have further discussion about this topic with 'him' lar...

Dude Z,

what's your problem man? Your "bella" just broke down again or something?

I was just wondering; how exactly would one test a car to determine if it is better?

Like: what defines performance? What defines handling? Areas in which you, Z, deem Alfas to be superior compared to BMWs?

If we can come up with a system of fair, impartial and accurate tests, then we can finally settle this little tete a tete.

Is that such an inflammatory thing, Z?
