anxious;276525 said:I have been a participant of this forum for more than 3 yrs now and have just hit 500 posts. I have been a very regular visitor and contributor to the discussions that interest me.
Over the years, I have noticed that most of the advertisements on the website are linked to US based websites which I have never heard of.
There are hardly any local companies advertising on the website.
How are these foreign advertisements procured and who earns the revenue on these advertisements?
Is the revenue ploughed back to the club?
Does the club own the website?
If not, who has proprietory rights to the website?
Well most of us are happy to enjoy access to the website(including myself), I am just curious as to the above.
I hope someone can enlighten me as to my queries above.
Cheers. Have a good weekend!
Hi to the topic starter and to all who have shown considerable amount of interest and curiousity towards who owns what, how much money is in it and where the money goes to.
There are just too many replies to the topic, some relevant others probably not, some genuinely out of curiousity and i hope others are. To satisfy your need to know, here are some words of mine.
Firstly, some years ago the whole BMW club thing formed by this guy named Chester which was created through the establishment of a website named BMWCLUB.COM.MY. After significant interest shown, a committee was formed and with early registered users of the built-in community forums the whole thing was headed for ROS and for a couple of years, things went on.
There were problems with the initial website so a complete revamp was needed. I was contacted to take on the challenge. Being an avid participant of the BMWCLUB.COM.MY forums, it was my pleasure to accept the job.
Due to the early stages of the club's establishments, it was not feasible due to costs and the immediate need to erect this completely new website to discuss about who will pay for what to build this new website.
As the owner of a local automotive website Zerotohundred.com it wasn't tough to adopt a sister site. The then unofficial BMWClub of Malaysia and I promptly decided that Zerotohundred.com will take on all costs of building the new site which will be registered BMWCLUBMALAYSIA.COM
The revenue generated from BMWCLUBMALAYSIA.COM will subsidise for the cost of adopting this project until further discussion.
This relationship has been the way it is since then till today. BMWClub Malaysia still owns the domain name BMWCLUBMALAYSIA.COM

I was told that there were certain speculation about the money generated amounting to tens of thousands dollars monthly going into the pockets of one person or company. whether or not that there's an obligation to disclose the figures from web advertisement publicly still needs to be determined for now and the fact that since the "revenue" generated actually only subsidizes the cost of running the website.
I am not the best in the web industry but I do have a portfolio. To generate revenue there has to be a product. in this case, the bmwclubmalaysia.com website. To generate substantial revenue you need statistics. In comparison, bmwclubmalaysia.com is really small. Actually making money? I guess a professional blogger is probably would be able to confirm that fact.
So, if you need to contribute to the topic on the issue of in depth details, statistics and revenue please only do so with a good amount of research and certain knowledge of the web. If not, please just keep them as only questions rather than statements.
On the issue of Official club membership, please only subscribe if you like the benefits stated WHETHER directly beneficial to you monetarily or novelty-ly.
In this case, the product describes it's feature. If you don't find it being worth your while, why don't you leave it on the shelve? Don't you think it's pretty childish to be continously questioning why doesn't it include this or that?
Please excuse my post if it's too short. I will continue this when i get back to the office with a fully charged notebook.
