I've been reading this thread and another similar one since after my lunchtime.
Most responses have been very pragmatic and mature, while certain ones have not...

Since I joined the forums, I have grown to be very attached to it in a short time.
Why? Because of the camaraderie that is evident among all, regardless of official members or forumers.
This is a (virtual) place where we can hang around and discuss various topics regarding our UDMs and other topics of general automotive interest.
And then there are the occasional meetups where we get to solidify the fellowship.

Let's not turn this into a battle of The Blues vs The Blacks.
What will other potential members/forumers surfing these forums think about BMWCM if they are reading this? My guess is that they will be put off by this internal "war", and there goes the chance of recruiting 1 more member...

We are afterall here for a common passion - love for our UDMs! :top:

Agreed with GHS.

Let's not turn this into a Official versus Non-Official Member war of words.

At the end of the day, everyone has the liberty to choose to be an official member or not. If they decide not to, then the committee / official members should strive to understand why and work on resolving whatever doubts these forumers have. I believe if the club membership offers great value (in relative to the RM300 fee), forumers would join in droves. Its just human nature.

Then again, we are all here in this community because of our passion for BMWs. Whether one is an official member or not, the person can always contribute to the club in different ways.

I suppose if everyone sees that, then we should just forget about this petty issue.

My 2 cents.

Cheers :)

I read the beginning of the thread, and felt my brain cells dying. Wow, some remarkable counter-points to simple questions from a forummer.

Anxious, hold on to your horses. I am actually considering forking out RM300 to buy the minutes and share with you.

On the other hand, two cohiba magicos maduro 5 are a tempting proposition as well.

Or a good dinner with family and friends.

Or a couple of voltage stabilizers.

Or donating to the amature-dvd-political-comeback fund...

At the moment, the competing value propositions are stronger to some people. So, Albundy's got a point there about needing to offer greater value.

Alienating the very people who generate content for a forum that survives on traffic can't be very wise, it seems to me. Many people who were active in the forum making this place a fun and informative community a couple of years ago have gone away. What happened to them?

Every one has a right to ask questions. It is also the right of the party being asked to choose how to respond. One can tell a lot from the nature of the response. And so far, it is quite telling indeed.

Anyway what i think that is not fair, here we are trying to sell something and we got people who dont want to buy it telling others , hey dont buy no good one, very expensive one other places free.., I can propose a better way to sell it...aiyooo dont want to buy keep the comments to your self if you think you can sell it better join the company as its sales manager and do a better job...and if one thinks that the product is good by all means purchase it.

You have a good point and I'll be more sensitive in my future postings on this topic. I know and understand that many of you are doing your level best voluntarily and stand nothing to gain personally out of. My comments were just based on my own personal experience and views and the purpose was to try give valuable input to the guys putting all their voluntary sweat into BMWCM cos I saw things headed in the wrong direction. Again, like I mentioned, I could be proven wrong at the end and this model will really work out :). Peace OK?

And I urge all to click into the local advertiser's banner to at least show some response to the ad and spend some time, go read their offer in the banner. I believe they are keeping a counter on how effective are their banners to justify for renewal.

Thanks.

I have been a participant of this forum for more than 3 yrs now and have just hit 500 posts. I have been a very regular visitor and contributor to the discussions that interest me.

Over the years, I have noticed that most of the advertisements on the website are linked to US based websites which I have never heard of.

There are hardly any local companies advertising on the website.

How are these foreign advertisements procured and who earns the revenue on these advertisements?

Is the revenue ploughed back to the club?

Does the club own the website?

If not, who has proprietory rights to the website?

Well most of us are happy to enjoy access to the website(including myself), I am just curious as to the above.

I hope someone can enlighten me as to my queries above.

Cheers. Have a good weekend!

To recap that was my original post here.

It was a simple question but it seemed to hit some wrong nerves.

Todate the question remains largely unanswered despite this thread having 113 replies and 1351 hits.

How do you expect the club to grow if there remains so much secrecy over such fundamental matters.

I have been told to become a member to get the answers.

Will ALL my questions be answered when I become a member?

Do u really want me as an official member?

I have been informed that the club does not own the forum.

The forum apparently belongs to a committee member and/or his company.

I also understand that he was supposed to have transfered his rights in the forum to the club but has yet to do so.

Now is this true?

If so is he also earning income generated from the ads in this forum?

Has the income been accounted to the club?

If not, is that proper?

Shouldnt that be regularised immediately?

What can be more important than the ownership of the forum that the club associates itself with ?

In fact I dare say that this forum is the club most treasured asset. How can your crown jewels belong to someonelse?

Well I know your answer already, you will just shoot me down by saying that since I am a not an official member I have no right to ask these Qs.

But I am sure that there are many Official Members out there who also are curious to have the answers to these Qs.

If what I heard is true, shouldnt the President himself explain how and why such a matter has been allowed to happen.

This issue of me not being an Official Member sounds trivial compared to this issue concerning the ownership of the forum.

As I have said before, if you hold yourself out to be the Official BMW Club in Malaysia, then you should be ready for this kind of scrutiny, be it from your members or not!

You all want to know about the clubs business be part of it as an outsider pls use the facilities that has been provided for free to you and do not dictate what the club has to answer to you bcos the club is only answerable to its members.
Official Members have raised this question up in the last AGM and this answers will be answered in due time in the next AGM. In the first place you guys are not even interested to join the club why the sudden interest in all this abt the club...pls dont start with the crap I want to know more abt the club first bcos in the 1st place this club is abt the love for BMW the car, its not abt how much money the club can make, if the club makes money or dont make money from this site what is it to you...You still pay RM300 first year (RM150 Registration Fee + RM150 Annual Fee and subsequently RM150 Annually), its not that if the club is going to make millions youre going to get a share of it...but if you think you are smart enough and can actually make money out of this club than by all means since you are the smart one and the others are too stupid to do so.

1.President: E46fanatic
2.V.President: Astroboy
3. Bendehari: Anxious

I will pay this people membership because this people all very the pandai. So they can do what they talk and then we see cakap serupa bikin or cakap but no go.I think all the offical member will agree.

Let me shed some light on this matter. Eventhough I have the right to only explain to official members, I feel since we are all here because of the same passion, it's only rightful I do so. During the 1st AGM held at Sapura Auto, this issue was brought up. Let's get into a bit of history again. When the few individuals founded this forum a couple of years back, someone had to take the initiative to register the domain under a Sdn Bhd company. This is definitely a wiser choice compared to registration under an individual. So unanimously, it was decided that one individual undertake this responsibility. It was agreed back then when the club goes official, ownership of this forum will be surrendered back to the club. This decision and commitment still stands till today. The founding members together with the support of the current committee has pledged to transfer forum ownership back to the club. No buts. No hidden agendas.

The forum apparently belongs to a committee member and/or his company.

On paper, this forum or the domain 'www.bmwclubmalaysia.com' is registered under a company called A Synergies (M) Sdn Bhd. I am one of the directors of this company. Until ownership is handed back to the club, this company will only act as a guardian of this domain.

I also understand that he was supposed to have transfered his rights in the forum to the club but has yet to do so.
According to some sources, transfer of ownership can only be executed when a domain expires. Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not an expert in this industry. But for the ease of mind of those who thinks the guardian of the domain has been up to no good i.e. making some quick bucks from those Google Ads, as a gesture of faith and sincerity, I am more than willing to issue a black & white letter, on behalf of the founding members and committee, stating the transfer of ownership immediately.
Now is this true?

If so is he also earning income generated from the ads in this forum?
Since the inception of this forum, no one in the committee including myself has made a single cent from these Google Ads. As for revenue generated from the Google Ads, I'll leave it to our administrator, Tom, to put forth an explanation. Tom has been the key person orchestrating the entire design, hosting and maintenance of this forum from A to Z since its inception.
Has the income been accounted to the club? If not, is that proper? Shouldnt that be regularised immediately?

We are seriously looking at 'regularising' all accounts associated to official matters of this club and that includes the 'crown jewel' aka The Forum. I believe only Tom is privy to the information on the revenue generated from the Google Ads. The forum software also belongs to the founding members.

What can be more important than the ownership of the forum that the club associates itself with ?

In fact I dare say that this forum is the club most treasured asset. How can your crown jewels belong to someone else?

The founding members created this 'Crown Jewel' and has always been committed to transferring ownership back to the rakyat once it reaches puberty. The time is now.
We started with 10 individuals. Now we have more than 10,000 registered forumers. Definitely a great feat. But we do not expect a pat on the back.

I hope this clears the air a little.
