Hi everybody. How can I check if my Adaptive Headlights are working? Other than the fact that the little green Led light illuminates whenever I turn the light knob to activate it, how else can I know that its working fine?I've been on certain roads (not very long stretches) whereby there were no street lights. But my headlights (high beam) did not come up. As such I'm wondering if its working fine? Any experience or advise would be much appreciated.Thank You

Hm. Mine works even during the morning when I drive to work about 7am. Only when the sun comes out shining the adaptive headlights turn off.

I would say mine is pretty sensitive. It will turn on during morning until sun comes out and during dawn when the sun is slowly fading.

I dont think "Adaptive Head Light" feature is available on our locally assemble 3 series.

When you turn your light switch to the left, "Automatic Driving Lights Control" is activated; daytime driving lights are switch on during the bright sunny day and when you drive through a tunnel or entering a dark parking area, the low-beam headlights will be automatically activated.

If you have Adaptive Headlights (for CKD models, it is an extra accessory), you can tell it is running when the light beam cast moves left/right as you turn the steering wheel left/right to illuminate the direction you are heading. Best seen in dark (unlit) roads at night. It only works for the low-beam, not the high-beam. It is activated by turning the lighting knob to automatic mode.

Note that Automatic Driving Lights Control is NOT Adaptive Headlights. If you are referring to your high-beams turning on/off automatically in dark stretches, that is also NOT Adaptive Headlights, but another feature whose name I can't remember at this time.

Ha ha! You're all talking about 4 different features: Daytime Running Lights, Automatic Driving Lights Control, Adaptive Headlights and High-beam Assistant! :D Read your manuals first to sort it all out.

bsoosay, I think you're referring to the High-beam Assistant. Firstly, ensure it's activated in your iDrive. Secondly, IMO it doesn't work unless you're on a completely dark road.

This just to show that most people don't read their manual or even sales brochure when they buy their car. Frankly speaking the High Beam Assistant is more of a gimmick than anything else IMHO. First to find a completely dark stretch of road is not easy AND you also need to have no car in front or coming towards you. In Europe or US country side, this may work. Even when I balik kampung and drive in the so called kampung road, this feature is hardly activated

My Service Advisor confirmed that Adaptive Head Light and High Beam Assistant is NOT available on our 3 series.....(available on the 5 series)

For the 323i, I know that the Adaptive Headlights function is there. But how do I activate the High Beam assistant.

I think your Service Advisor is an idiot as the sold-in-Malaysia E90 325i Sports has the high beam assistant. Mine works just fine it is just like I said, there are not many situations where it will apply.

Yeah, chalk up another SA who doesn't know his own product range. So what else is new? Like Peanut, my 2008 325i Sports has High-Beam Assistant and it works. And like Peanut, I'm not lucky enough to live in the middle of a jungley area or oil palm plantation, and I avoid driving late at night, so it has never worked on the road.

Bro, why don't you read your manual? It's all in there. Are you sure you have Adaptive Headlights? High-Beam Assistant is not the same as Adaptive Headlights.

First, ensure High-Beam Assistant is selected in your iDrive. Find it in Settings -Vehicle/Tyres - Lights. Then switch your lights knob to 'A'. Then activate HBA by pushing the indicator stalk towards the dash once. The headlight symbol with an 'A' will appear in your instrument cluster. Your HBA is now active. To test it, cover the sensor at the back of your rear-view mirror with your palm while the car is rolling to simulate pitch dark conditions (it doesn't work when the car is stationary)

Pull the stalk to deactivate HBA, or push the stalk once more to activate high-beam manually, which also deactivates HBA. It's all in the manual bro.

But read it tomorrow...it's time to PARTY! :dancing:

Hi All,

With the 323i, I don't think High Beam Assistant is available. Adaptive Head lights is there, but on the iDrive I don't see a "High Beam Assistant".

And my SA told me HBA was part of the package!

If HBA is not an option in your iDrive, then you don't have it. One flick of the indicator stalk to go high beam manually then whereas it's 2 flicks to go high beam for me. Don't sweat it, HBA isn't useful for urban and highway driving. It's sad that most SAs are just order takers, and either don't know their products or tell you whatever they think you want to hear.

I'm surprised that the LCI 323i has Adaptive Healights. I'd rather have AH than HBA! Does it work well, and do you find that it's useful when you turn?

Haha... your Service Advisor is clueless. Adaptive Headlights are available for the 3-series. You just need to order it as an additional accessory. I know as I ordered it (and waited for it to be delivered from Germany) and had it installed into my car before I took delivery of it. It requires the replacement of the complete headlight unit. I still have one of my original headlight units (sold the other one), if anyone needs a replacement ;)

Adaptive Headlight is a good safety feature - more so than High Beam Assistant. However, I don't think it comes standard on the Malaysian E90 - at least not in the pre facelift ones like mine. Of course as add-on, it is possible as long as you have the money :)

Yes, and quite a lot of money too. Quite a lot of software and hardware changes. I heard my service advisor reel off the list of 'value-added-goodies' and I did a mental calculation in my head. Not worth it.
