I own a BMW 5-"silly" that required to top-up engine oil after travelling 5,000 to 6,000 km. It is "NORMAL" for such high performance car ? I hv sent my car to BMW service center and was told the car perform within "SPEC" (i dont know what spec they refer to), and i have to top-up the engine oil once the indicator light up. I asked "how long can i travel after the indicator light up?". NO answer was given.Therefore, every time after driving about 5,000km, i either not to travel long distant, or have to drive with stressful mind. What kind of "plesure driving" ?Any 5-"silly" owner can share your experient ?

dude...ur car not onli burn on petrol...but also engine oil ya. tats farny....between r u reffering to E60? i had driven mine for 1year ++ for about 23,000 km (in 1 year duration) and never had such issue as u mentioned. m no expert to answer wat's wrong wit ur car but i'm sure some expert here will be able to enlighten u soon. just stay tune n be patient enough to wait for the write-up from sifu here. cheers!!

Spec = specification
Info on model, year, owner information, modification, last service, etc ... will help.

As far as i know, many newer bimmer suffer "top-up" issue. Is not a big problem, but can get annoying.

You should just keep 1L of engine oil ready in the car. (same grade, same oil). When you see the indicator come on, just pour half in it.

Look under 5 series E60 thread...theres a topic regarding this. Cheers!

model 523i, year 2006, drove for just over a year, 28,000 km. 1st service 10k, after travelling to 28,000km, top-up three times.

The last was about 3 weeks ago where i sent to BMW service center for them to drain and refill for measurement. Measurement was taken this Monday, as expected answer 'the LOSS of engine oil within spec.".

I think it is very SILLY to drive such GOOD car with 1L of engine oil loaded on. This is silly....silly.....

All my friends recalled the only motorcar that required engine oil to run is suzuki or yamaha motor.

I dont understand what kind of spec. BMW is refering, when they say you need only to change the engine oil after ~20,000km, i would assume i bother nothing until i have travel ~20,000km.
