suggest you put car info here than have people guessing. that'll help others to help with your question. not sure what you mean by single vanos and CI engine. the engine on e36 328 is single vanos whilst the "CI" (the e46 328ci i suppose) engine has double vanos. either way, its timing chain.

that's not my friend la bro....that posting copied from other page...my text is only the question..but still wanna know...is that true? 15k?

I'm assuming he got a brand new gearbox. If I'm not mistaken that's the price for brand new gearbox la....or something like 20k. Can't remember.

A complete rebuild these days should set you back something like RM3-4k. Cheaper also can find.

15K for brand new? that is cheap. Try Range Rover gearbox. Will set you back by few low cost apartments hehehehe

one thing that i noticed about e36 lacked of...is unable to install double din dvd player...but since my existing car have it and i rarely used it...so i don't mind

need to find someone expert with this...but good for info bro..anybody has done this...let us share...might able to pay some

i noticed at my grant...engine no is 32181093286S1...chassis stated AD2999...what engine is that? how do i know what engine my car using? normally if m5b28..it should be stated as that in grant right?

I drives a E36 318A.

Price for 318 vs 328 would not differ much. It's the maintenance, road tax which you need to consider.
I was also worried about >2000cc engine not eligible for fuel subsidy at that time.

My experience.
318 is good enough if you're cost concious and don't speed.
But how can you not speed with Bimmer, huh :>
318 can go 140km/h without any problem.
Can push to 160km/h, but RPM would be at 4500rpm and you can really hear the engine stressing.

328i model can easily hit 180km/h stress-free lah.
It's Vanos will kick-in around 4000rpm and you get additional booost.

However, bare-in-mind higher oil & engine parts costs associated with 6-cylinder engine.
Road tax for 328 would be around RM1600!

Conclusion, always go for higher engine capacity if you can afford it.

Regards.

thanks a lot for every one of u...make me become bimmers in a week..so kind of u...new bimmers..can use my posting to decide...

so many questions answered..should have posted ur car pics by now

Nando,

Congrats on your ride. Sharing my experience, i have no regrets getting my 325i. I enjoyed more driving my beemer compared to my CM5 and my CRV combined and i believe that you aware of its current state.

Truth be told, i'm not a fan of beemer in the beginning. Always have been a Merc guy until one fine day when my dear wife and i went car shopping and we tried out the E39 525i Double Vanos.(1st time driving but have been a passenger numerous times).

After "kena" double vanos, exit the car and told the mrs." i must get myself one Beemer with Vanos". From that point onwards i'm converted and now settled with E36 325i.

Just sharing arr..
