never really bothered to measure FC of my 328i when i had it. it was such a joy to drive/own.. until i got spoilt by E30s :D

my probelm is the other way round, owned E30 and get spoilet by E36 328

My first impressions of the '97 E36 318i my parents bought earlier this year was, well, typical. WHY? Why the 318i? Why not the 328i, more power mah I said. But my dad said 318i engine not so problematic as 328i, which probably translates to lesser thrashings endured from previous owners.

Well, initially, my doubts were proven, when I felt the car was totally underpowered and unable to pick up or attain a quick kick down despite mashing pedal to the metal driving. Then again, this is coming from one who's driven the E32 730i as well as the XJ40 3.6... So when it came to the 318i, well, I was very disappointed.

I felt rather unappreciative of the fact that the only good point was the compact dimensions and better fuel consumption, and yet, I was still dismissive of the fact that rear-ward visibility was poorer due to the relatively high boot and smallish rear windscreen.

Again, I must digress. I used the car ystdy, and I think I've finally started to drive the car properly now. Using 3rd gear where necessary to give it some much needed kickdown on the highway. The most surprising moment came when I actually gunned the car when the lights turned green, and wey hey, it was quick. Then again, 100km/hr in that e36 felt quick. :D

Of course, nothing beats my trusty old E32... But I must say, I shouldn't have written off the 318i before I'd even driven it.

Belum try belum tahu, sekali try, hari hari mau... :thefinger:

Perhaps the 318i needed a few more decarbonising high speed runs to clear the carbon deposit... ;)

i had a blast reading all the feedbacks... :) thank you all.

i'm still loving my 318i... at the moment. tempted for an upgrade but as long as i don't know how long i will stay in malaysia, i'll stick to my ride. it's still an enjoyable ride though.

Dear all,

Need some comments. I'm driving E46 328i, 1999 UK specs.

1. I noticed that my car LESS POWER as compared to other 328i, in terms of pick-up.

2. Hard Fuel pedal. Already changed the fuel cable, but after 2 years, the pedal became harder as before.

TQ

The higher CC car always depreciate faster than lower CC car, another reason will be caused by the roadtax.

Are you sure that high CC always depreciate faster than low CC? any example? it is good to know :) thanks..

Compare e39 540i and 525i

Compare e66 750i and 730i.

Compare Accord 3.0 and 2.0.

In your case 328i vs 318i; how much when they was new? Compare the price nowadays.

It's a known fact that 328 is always cheaper than 318 unless the car is really well taken care of then it'll be priced higher. Willing buyer willing seller.

I think you'll need to get a CBU model if you want the 5speed auto. CKD ones all came with 4speed imo. Not 100% certain though on this.

I am owner of 318i while a close friend of mine is an owner of 328. Basically nothing beats the feeling of 328 when its pure power u are aiming. Torque is excellent and top speed easily hit above 220 km/h. (Old liao so seldom drive so fast) Where else on a 318i depending on the year cause mine is M40 so its a miserable 4 cylinder SOCH 8 valve. Where else a M42 is a 16v DOCH which gives a better driving experience. If u could spare the 1.7k ++ roadtax go for 328.

318 is a beautiful car nonetheless; yet I'm looking for a 328 to add to the stable. BMW is about 'sheer drivin pleasure', you want top speed - do japanese implant lah...cheers.
