currently using waja 1.6 manual.... rm80 to 85 spend for around 480km...speed 110 to 130

thats about the same millage i would get for my m40 318 ...or infact more as i don't drive up till 130 .... been keeping low till 110 the max ....

ya...of course..not much diff with 318....that's why i asked for 328 fc...hahaha....

if i spend rm80 for 480km.... i think it might be rm110 to rm120 for 480km when driving 328....am i right? then any problem for the 328 to use ron 95?

assuming your 328i is healthy, RM100 of RON95 wud certainly take you at least 480kms of mixed driving. that's what my 3.0 E34 is doing.

Nando, there's only so much we can tell you by writing / contributing here. If you really wanna know the difference between the 318i and 328i, the proof is in the driving. Go find a couple of good examples and get behind the wheel. Let's see if you're still having trouble making up your mind after that! I commend you for doing your homework before settling on either of them but they are 2 very different animals on the road. From a very happy 328i owner ....

P.S : The car runs perfectly fine on RON 95 but it'll be even happier on a diet of RON 97.

Cheers,
VaN.

Nando,

Welcome to the club.

Many BMW enthusiasts like you have always asked the same question, 4 pot or 6 pot, 325 or 328.

Given the current used car prices, go for the bigger capacity to truly experience what is a BMW all about. The 318 is a good car, but there is no replacement for displacement and the silky smoothness of the legendary BMW inline six engine is more than compensation for the additional roadtax to pay.

AS for fuel consumption, I wouldn't be surprised a 325 or 328 (with a 5 speed auto tranny) will match your WAJA on the highway, given the lower gear ratios.

Good luck hunting.

Cheers

thanks a lot guys...so kind to share info...but please update here additional info...good for other newbies..

328i, after 4 months of ownership, every other car I drive also feel underpowered. :31:

Some parts can get from normal parts shop (brake pads, oil filter).. Other parts need to visit the BMW specific part dealers like Bavarian Auto, Inner Power, First Division etc..

emmmmmmm........seems like i will go for 328.......eventhough the roadtax wass sooooooooooooooooo......cheapppppp

There's plenty of spare parts available. You can either purchase them brand new or from chop shop it's up to you.

Do bear in mind E36 are all well over 10 years old so you will definitely need to change a lot of the parts in the car if the previous owner has neglected them.

I always hear people complaining about the maintenance of a E36 but what they don't take into consideration is the fact that it's an old car. Things often do break down over time and it's no different with the E36. When I first got my E36 I spent quite a fair bit on renewing a lot of the wear and tear parts. Ever since then the only money I've spent on the car is when an oil change is due.

So take care of the car well, and the car will return the favor.

bro nando,

I had the same question last 3 years ago after I ve sold my beloved honda crx. I promised my wife to buy a car that no need to mod/no more raya shopping in chop shop..so I 've decided to get e36 that within my budget. the first question that I ask around was e36 318 or 328. I got a lot of negative feedback for both of this model. old car lar/minyak kuat lar/high maintenance lar..get e46 lar...ayoooo makes me more confused :).

rather makes me more confused..I ve decided to test drive this 2 models on my own..hereby my finding:

318 auto year97: performance : I m not sure why..felt like driving my wife waja year05. really disappointed. not for me.

328 auto year 97: performance: excellent and addicted to the torque power + comes with ori ///M bodykit+koni adjustable shocks with super premium price. Its true dude..love is blind..been stuck on it..been caught..been poison by myself...with sleepless night..its crazy..till I got her parked in my parking lot.

guess what bro.. u will be surprise when drive 328..all the sudden.u don't give a shit about the roadtax/petrol consumption (depends on how heavy is ur foot) + prevent maintenance bills..and big NO to ron95.
u take care of her..trust me..she wont dissapoint u.

as long the power still makes my leg shivering after a hard drive..I m still a sucker& addicted to this beast. lastly, try to get year 97 and above with full service record to avoid urself a lemon..
bottom line..its still bmw :)
depends wat u want and how u want it to be..its ur call bro..

just my 2 cents..

I started with BMW on 318 due rdtax reason & fear of maintenance. End up spent a lot oso. My advice test drive the car, browse the forum for more info on maintenance.
If u can afford go for higher cc u can afford. Ehh BTW I owned manual Waja before got my ex E36 318. E36 is an excellent car even to today standard. If u want a good condition my recommendation is Clockwork car. His car is only car that can beat my ex E36 in & out in term of pristine condition. Again still depend on how you expect out of a car lar. Happy Hunting:top:

ron97 (caltex): RM80: 370km..(town use only)

ron95: only tried couple of times..big NO for me.

There's conflicting information if you search on the web. Some forum says it's RON97, some say RON99 and even wikipedia says it's RON99 in Malaysia.

From what I heard it's actually RON97 but with different additives compared to the normal RON97.
