x5 ventilation recirculating mode

Hi All SIFU out there,my X5 recirculating mode seems to be malfunction as I can smell exhaust fumes from outside the car especially when I am at traffic light or following very near to another car. I have send to Autobavaria Pg 3 times already and so far the answer has been that this is standard and is a safety feature where the ventilation will open intermitently eventhough it is in recirculating mode (not the "A" mode). I wonder if anyone has similar issue and what has been done? Thanks.

So far all my BMws in recirculation mode has no outside smells coming in. Although I've heard that all Continental cars allow a bit of outside air in even in recirculation mode. Some air cond mechanics can stuff or totally seal off the inlet ducting to shut off 100% outside air coming in but i never had to do this.
