Bro, how old is your X5. Would you say maintenance on SUV is higher than sedans. What are the expensive items and roughly how much would they cost to replace.

Mine is 03 model. Just got it for 2 weeks only. So I can't tell yet if the maintenance is higher or not. But since it is a big SAV I would expect the wear and tear will be higher. The tyres for one will cost abt 1.5k ea. The engine/transmission/aircond side however is the same as any other similar era BMWs.

Thanks for starting a good information thread.

Anyone here have done their X5 E53 air suspension bellows / bags.?

Heard that this is quite a common 'feature' that requires attention in an X5.

Thanks

Yes that is common problem. You will notice the X "senget" after a while when you park. How fast it will "senget" or lean to one side depending on amount of "leak". I have change once rear left at Optimum.

Bro Zidee,

Normally how long will these bags last typically? And how much did you pay for your replacement?

The X mileage was 110km when I change it. Can't remember how much. Got to dig the receipt. If I'm not mistaken RM1200. That X was M Sport. When purchase last time the ride is firm. When it reached almost 100km mileage the suspension suck. For best result, change all 4. Do look after all your mountings too. X handle well but must make sure, suspension, arms, tie rod, steering rack/systems and mountings is good as new. Then you will get a good feel. Not to mention good tyre too.

Floor Mats for E53. Custom made by Carbi Deco. Including rear centre which the original did not come with. RM250.

Thanks Zidee for your infor. I have actually sent my M Sport X5 into the workshop today to change both the rear bags.
You are absolutely right about the time the bags start to fail, my mileage is now 110Km. I guess i'll change the front 2 bags soon as well.
Thanks again for the infor.
Cheers

Bro,

Please post here after you can your repairs done so that we all know the cost. Also if you can wait then check out this link http://www.ebay.com/itm/220800059946?_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649&item=220800059946&cmd=ViewItem&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&vxp=mtr

Hey thanks 525i, this ebay unit seems like a really good buy at that price! Further they provide lifetime warranty!
But too bad i couldn't wait as 1 of the bags failed suddenly and decided to send it in immediately.

I wonder if they have for the front as well. I wouldn't mind getting the front and change as well before it fails on me.

Thanks again

I'll post later on my expense of the replacement here.

Cheers

Yes, they are real cheap compared to the ones we get here. Maybe someone should organize a group buy and save on shipping cost. I myself will be getting the rear ones (mine is only rear air springs) and keep for a rainy day.

i have own a E53 year 2001 i bought it brand new the first 5 year of ownership was great just some minor problem. the real problem start at the sixth year. my radiator was burst that cost me around 2.3 k to replace. then follow by air suspension sensor failed then comes the air cond. the air cond unit i bought from ab which cost me 7k which is pain in the ass but. after all this problem i drive for around 1 year plus then i discover my gearbox was faulty and steering pump was broken the total cost of this two item was around rm20k so i decided not to repaired it and sell it back to auto bavaria. and at this time i was migrating to uk that it the reason why i also sell the car. but despite all the problem i have still prefer x5 anytime.but for now i am driving year 2012 320i msport. but after i officially staying in malaysia i will work harder to get my x5 back. i am a bmw fan boy

Front drive shaft cover RM80
Front Absorber Mounting RM240
Front passenger door handle carrier RM480 (Door cannot open from outside. (This is a very
common failure in X5s)

Agree with 525i on the door handle failure. Dont know the price because it was replaced by the dealer when I bought the car.
