[WTA/B] need more info on E46 M3

hi guys. i am planning to buy an M3. was wondering if any is for sale is what is the market price? i saw one which is a 2002 M3 which is going for 180k is it worth it? and how reliable is it? i went to bmw dealers and the mech. said min have to spend 50 k on it for repairs and upkeep? is that true?

Not true, if you're buying from the owner who has most of the service history.

If the RM180K you mentioned is imola red, then it belongs to one of M owner here. Good ride here.

the imola is indeed rocks and rare!

Mine is also up for sale but can only be sold after OCT 2011. Year 2002, 6 speed manual, full specs. Nonetheless e46 M3 is always fun to ride!

haha yea newbie here. nice. well it depends on the price and condition. what have you seen so far? i think i have seen bout 5 M3 till now. got my eye on one but i am worrry bout the servicin cost as the BMW mechanic told me that it WILL cost 50 k min to fix everything since the car is so old.

nah . i called him but i couldnt get him. met his dad , thats how i knew bout the car. but prob is price is high and also he tracked his car T_T. prefer a car which doesnt .

Wah... quite a lot too bro! Btw, who telling you that need to spent RM50k to repair it ? Does he selling new / unregistered car ? I don't think so la, most major headache is the SMG system, heard the pump cost around 8k+/- for new, replace this the rest i believe not a major thing to repair.. Wear and tear sure have la, still not 50k la bro..

the guy who told me is a mechanic in BMW in glenmarie. if its done in BMW cause its a grey import so therefore they will charged more for labour. i heard for clutch and pump will cost bout 8 k, BUT so far many mech. has never changed one since it never break before. is the M3 a working horse? cause i might take it as a daily ride and prolly once a week or 2 for spirited drive hehe. if i get one it will the the first BMW for me ^_^

If you bring back to Auto Bavaria, i believe they will cost you more because you not get from local dealer. But in outside market actually many bimmer workshop can do that, sure can get some advise which workshop able to trust in here.. For me, i will drive it daily with no care reason bro, hahaha.. So when you get yours bro ?

Haha as soon as I find the perfect one for me hehe.I worry bout the maintenance if it's drove Daily , normal driving should be ok but what bout pushing it like 6-7 k rev ?

Just so that you know the M cars are made to be thrashed around. Their engine internals differ in material composition compared to the non-M counterparts which explains why you rarely need to overhaul a M engine. The only exception is for idiotic drivers who don't take care of the engine with regular and timely servicing and of course the idiot who over rev the engine.

Most of the ancillary components are made of better quality materials as well and rarely break down.

Also if you're worried about maintenance costs, please buy a JDM instead.

ahh yes i know its made with better quality compare to a normal BMW but still would like to know till what extend is the reliability.it isnt made to be trashed around when after doing so straight into workshop lol. power comes with price that i know but at what price hehe. i HAVE never owned a JDM so not sure how it feels. never thought to and never have. conti all the way.
